I've lived in my trailer park for 4 years.... I've heard of an old track that use to be open from various folks because I have "cars". I always ask....so where is this place???

A friend out of the blue sent these to my wife for me.

click the link and on the right you'll see "wall photos" apparently early 70's THIS track was the place to run. IN FACT I'll be cruising around TOMORROW to try to find it.

Probably a strip mall now! I wonder if the name Carpenter on the side of the car is the Daniel Carpenter reproduction parts guy!

Dont know OlePony... I've sent out a few notes to see where these guys may be today any of them around. Most would be mid-late 50's and older.
this track is rumored to be about 5 miles from my house. I'm taking some vacation days.... gonna go for a little ride based on the new information I got from the links. The area is a lower income town so it may be grown over by now.
I thought it was further south about 15-20 miles... but nobody remembered but remembered its existence.

I remember hearing about it as a kid, never got to go there. I'll pass the info to a few buddies of mine and see what pops up.
Also there was a track down in Santa Fe, Tx on the east side of I45. I used to see the drag strip light poles up until maybe 5 years ago, but alas, no more.

I think it's built over with apartments now.

yeah RacerX I'll probably find Section 8 housing where the track use to be.

This article was in 91. Just got a response from 2 racers from back in the day.
Pretty cool.

FOUND A SHOT of it
The Buccaneer Mustang AA/FC is shown in 1973 at St. Louis. The Esquivel, Hodges & Carpenter team was based in Galveston, Texas. The team's two-year career was based on the 1972 OCIR Manufacturers Meet winning car of Billy Meyer. Esquivel fronted the money, making her one of the few female funny car owners. Robert Hodges was the main driver, but sometimes Grover Rogers took the wheel. The team ran the NHRA Division 4 circuit, where they finished third in 73 and second in 74. They also ran match races and the occasional IHRA or AHRA national event. The familiar Meyer paint scheme was covered up for 1974 but after solid high six-second performances the team disappeared. (Don Eckert photo; info sources Gary Osborne and draglist.com)
well I'll be..... None other than Billy Meyer current owner of the Texas Motorplex in Ennis (south of Dallas) was one of the drivers for the Buccaneer.
I've been to the Motorplex many times.

Wow I'd like to do that!!!

Stopped and got my hair cut a few minutes ago. My barber is a car gearhead too. Wade has pic's all around his shop of cutomer cars. the place is packed wall to wall. Each spring he has a car show in the parking lot.... 100 cars show up to this little shop. Both my cars are on the wall of fame.

So we are talking. "Wade... you've lived here all your life right?" "yep bout 45 years". A guy I know sent me some pics and two old 8mm movies from the early 70's about a track that was suppose to be around here. I've heard rumors but just curious if you know anything about it"

In a loud voice "Are you kidding ME" My diddy use to run that track when I was a KID".
me: "well he sent me a picture of a 71 Mach I .....
him: "Mach I???" "Hell if it was maroon ...THAT WAS MY DIDDY"
'man we use to go there EVERY weekend and my diddy would run" "I bet I got some old pictures I'll did up for you"

Sure enough when I went searching for the old spot.... it is now the path of a retention ditch for one of the neighborhoods in the area SadSadSadSad when we talked I ask if I was on the right track locating its old hallowed grounds.
Sure enough I did find it....sad to say you cant tell any more. DodgySad

I've known this guy for 4 years...never heard that story before!!!!

Yeah no kidding. we've talked cars for 4 years. He's on a 72 Chebbie Truck project. Always ask bout my cars. Really good guy, and I've never ask "so how did you get into cars?" Imagine that not only was dad a drag racer ...a 71 MACH I drag racer at that.
