Window Trim Cleaning, Bright metal
#1
So I cleaned up my window trim best I could with #00 steel wool and lacquer thinner.
But the bright metal trim (front window and rear window trim) is still very cloudy.
I assume this is just years of UV sun damage from sitting outside.

Any body know any tricks to approve the original appearance?

I'm not interested in painting or anodizing or things like that.
Just want to improve the original as best as possible.

Thanks

72,
I just completed this on my trim. Use EZ OFF yellow can spray oven cleaner and scotch brite pads to remove anodizing. It may take a couple applications, be patient. Once stripped, you can polish on a buffing wheel with white rouge until beautiful. I finished off with Mother’s billet polish with a microfiber cloth.
Good luck.
Thanks, Jay

I've always used #0000 steel wool.

I was afraid this might be about the only way to really change the look of the trim.
I did that method to my trim below the drip rail that holds the weatherstrip.
I sprayed mine with clear after polishing.

I am worried that the exposed polished aluminum would become just another "maintenance" issue.
Billet wheels that don't get regularly cleaned and polished look like crap really soon.
Ok thanks.  Decision time.

All of the aluminum trim on any Ford is Anodized to make it shiny. Yes over time it does dull and like stated you have to remove the anodize before you polish it. Polishing the narrow trim pieces is a little tricky. If you use a pedestal buffer with like 6" or 8" pads they can grab an edge if not careful and destroy the part in the blink of an eye. Can also get you in there also.
I did the strips on the rear of my 73 vert and just sprayed with clear to protect them. I just bought new tail light frames and lens not worth the time to clean and polish when new was only $50.00 each. This is just a drive so not concerned about original.
Will never look like original unless you send and have anodize done again which is expensive.
