Whats it worth?: 1971 mustang Mach 1

I am seriously considering picking this up but am still inexperienced with valuing these cars. What do you think? is 5k too much?

The underside would need to be looked at, but the Serpantine setup on the engine is nearly half the asking price of the car!

I think for a little more money you can get a lot better car . When trying to restore a car rust can be a nightmare.

If it was parked outside for any length of time, you have to expect the cowl will be bad and that is not cheap or easy to fix, although they are repop'd now. Look at the rust on the rear bumper! I'd bet the floorpans are probably shot as well.

I like the rear window defroster glass and that it was probably delivered with no sidestripes.

But just as already mentioned - probably very rusty. Stay aware.

Yep,

I noticed the broken electric rear window defroster switch on the dash. A rare part that is not reproduced. I might know where to find that if you want to buy one.

Rear bumper and trunk floor tell it all - and if that isn't enough, someone's been kind enough to pull the sail panel headliner so we can see that the INNER C-pillar is full of surface rust too.

What's up with those holes on the right side of the trunk, anyway? They don't look like rust holes, nor are they drilled-out spot welds (spacing is too wide over the framerail).

It looks like it has the fold down seat option, make sure all the parts for that are there. That stuff is big money. If the car isn't rusted out it appears to be worth the 5K asking price.

One thing I like about this community is we don't think every one of these are worth a lot of money. Our production numbers were low but we still have a realistic attitude towards value.

Isn't the front bumper kind of hard to find for a 71? Fold down rear seat is cool. My first mustang (73 mach 1) had that option. Totally cool option.

Mostly it depends how deep the rust really is.
