Weekly Fun Question for May 10, 2014
Good Day All,

This is a very SPECIAL Weekly Fun Question as we have two anonymous gift donations for IMMEDIATE upgrade to VIP status.

Additionally, "Jeff73mach1" has donated another upgrade from his "winnings" derived from his having been one of the winners of the exercise to estimate the power and torque that my 545 engine would make on the dyno.

This means there are three (3) IMMEDIATE upgrades to VIP status as possible rewards this week.

The problem:

Please indicate whether the following statement is "True" or "False."

Staggered shocks were part of the "Competition Suspension" option on the 1971 Mustangs.

The first three (3) REGULAR (VIP Members are not eligible for this exercise) Members to provide the desired response will be declared the winners and win IMMEDIATE upgrade to VIP status.

HINT: The desired response is available here on the SiteSmile!

This exercise will end at approximately 7:00PM (CST) on Monday, May 12, 2014.

Good Luck!

To repeat the problem:

Please indicate whether the following statement is "True" or "False."

Staggered shocks were part of the "Competition Suspension" option on the 1971 Mustangs.

The statement is "False."

Competition suspension which was available on ALL models except those equipped with the 250 CID engine included heavy-duty front and rear springs, extra heavy-duty front stabilizer bar and rear stabilizer bar. The competition suspension option (contrary to popular belief) did not include staggered shocks.

As previously noted, there was the opportunity for three (3) winners but regrettably only one of the responses was the desired one. Based on the above, 1972MustangSVH is the sole winner and will be elevated to VIP status. Congratulations!

As previously noted in the "hint", this information is also available here on the Site's Wiki. See http://www.7173mustangs.com/thread-1971-...facts-book

I only knew this because there used to be no available parts for these cars so we combed the junkyards for what we needed. Anyway, I bought a hulk buried off in the weeds that I knew had the competition suspension pieces on it. My sole intent was to extract the coveted staggered shock pieces because I had already gathered most everything else. I was under the same disillusion as most that the sway bars and springs meant staggered shocks as well. (There was no internet, and, yes, junkyards had weeds.) Imagine the head scratching after I unloaded the wreck and flipped it over to find the standard shock arrangement. I didn't know it then but apparently I paid $500.00 bucks to answer this question 20 some odd years later, lol. P.S. I still don't have the pieces to change my shock configuration. anyone got some laying around?

For my '69 Mach 1, I did a LOT of research on this and finally found that there are several options. See below.

http://www.sancospecialties.com/stagger.HTM

I went with the "Maverick option" through an Ebay contact for the plates and ordered the upper mount from Sanco Specialities.

Worked for meSmile!
