Weekly Fun Question for March 8, 2014
Good Day All!

Specifics on the Weekly Fun Question (WFQ), to include information on awards and prizes for Winners, can be found on the thread below.

http://www.7173mustangs.com/thread-what-...tion--5488

Please note that VIP Members are not eligible to participate in this exercise as a different problem is being presented on the VIP WFQ Forum for their entertainment and "bragging rights."

When you submit your response, the specifics will not usually be viewable by others until all the responses are released at the end of the exercise.

The Problem:

Which of the following Mustangs would not have had "raised white letter" tires available as an option "from the factory?"

a. 1971 Mach 1

b. 1972 Convertible

c. 1973 Grandé

d. 1973 Hardtop

The FIRST Member to respond with the desired response will be declared the "Winner." Remember, "edited" responses will not count.

This exercise will end at approximately 7:00 PM (CST) on Monday, March 10, 2014.

Good Luck!

BT
The desired response is "a. 1971 Mach 1."

Do the RIGHT thing.

I want to research this one a little more. We may have uncovered some interesting issues with Marti's book.

Here is one example:
Kit, I do show the only Mustang in 1971 to come stock with the F70 x 14 B/WL (black sidewall tires with raised white letters) was
the 429 CJ-R Mach 1's*

*source Ford Dealer fact book - revised Feb 15 1971 ---- leaves door open for 1971 cars built/ordered before this date...

Yes. That was standard in that particular model. However, 15" RWL tires were optional on several models. The question was about optionally-available tires, not standard or "included in package", right?

Am I missing the intent of the original question?

Nope you are correct. We will research and see what the findings will be. I see some possible grey areas and holes in this info. But without research I can't say yet.

We might have two competing/different sources with differing info...

Thanks,

Ray

I suspect Marti's book simply didn't print out the RWL information for 1971. The Mustang Recognition Guide has photos (factory?) of a Mach1 with RWLs.

Let me check your shorts!

I have done some tentative additional research which suggest Kit is correct as it relates to the RWL tires being optionalon ALL Mustangs except for the 250 Six. It seems that RWL was standard on the Boss 351 and the 429CJ equipped Mustangs with ram air.

I still want to "dig a little further" but am currently tied up with some community issues in Memphis.

BTW, if this is true, the correct answer should have been "None of the above" but that does not detract from my having generated a seemingly "faulty" questionSmile.

GREAT catch,Kit!
