I'll take a punt and say C... they should have the same crank and rods. and the same deck height, compresson ratio should be the only real difference, either in piston design or use of open - closed chamber heads.....

All of them. Cars can't talk to each other, so how would they share information. Especially an R-Code Hardtop and a H-Code Convertible. They hang out in completely different social circles... Wink

Good Day All,

To repeat the problem:

As it pertains to engine block deck heights, which of the following measurements are not shared between a 1972 R-Code Hardtop and a 1972 H-Code Convertible?

a. Crank Throw

b. Connecting Rod Length

c. Compression Height

d. Deck Clearance

To appreciate the desired response, one must know that the 1972 R-Code is the 351 HO and the 1972 H-Code is the 351 2V engine.

All "Factory" 351C share the same crank throw (1.750") and the same connecting rod length (5.780").

However, the 351 HO (and other R-Codes) has a compression height of 1.657" while the 351 2V (and all other non R-Codes) has a compression height of 1.650". The 351 HO (and all other R-Codes) also has a deck clearance of 0.019" while the 351 2V (and all other non R-Codes) has a deck clearance of 0.035".

In short, the desired response is c and d.

Considering the difficulty of the problem, I have decided to award the "prize" to the first two Members who responded with either of the desired responses.

As a result, the "Winners" are pegasus and ReAnimator. Along with their new Icons, they will also have their membership paid for VIP Status. Congratulations!!

NOTE: ALL 351C R-Codes shared the same deck height of 9.206". All others have a deck height of 9.215". The measurements of the crank throw, connecting rod, compression height and deck clearance added together should not exceed the deck height.

351HO (R-Codes) 351 2V (and all others)

Crank Throw 1.750" 1.750"
Connecting Rod 5.780" 5.780"
Compression Height 1.657" 1.650"
Deck Clearance 0.019" 0.035"

Deck Height 9.206 9.215
