Weekly Fun Question for 9-17-2011
Good Day:

The Weekly Fun Question (WFQ) is an exercise to give "General" Members the opportunity to test their knowledge on information relative to the '71 - '73 Mustangs. It is also designed to allow the same members the chance to have a nice #1 Icon added to their profile when they are the FIRST to provide the desired response. If a general member "wins" on three (3) separate occasions, the member will have his/her membership (a $25.00 value) paid for a VIP subscription.

Also, please keep in mind that ANY General Member can always sign up for VIP Membership (which helps with the administration of the Site) by paying the $25.00 subscription feeSmile!

Please note when you respond to this thread, you will not see your "answer" as the thread is designed to show the responses at the end of the current contest (usually at approximately 7:00 P.M. {CST}) the following Monday when the thread is transferred to the "Archives" Forum. So, even though there may have been a number of replies to the question, those replies may not necessarily be correct. Also, please keep in mind that in order for responses to "count" they must be posted up to this thread. PM to me will not do itSmile.

[/b] Today's contest will end at approximately 7:00 P.M. on Monday, September 19, 2011.

While VIP members can also "play", their reward is "bragging rights" amongst their peers on the VIP Forum. General members are [size=x-large]NOT
competing against VIP members in this exercise. VIP members have their very own periodic "contest" which has an even more substantive award.

The problem:

You are in the process of restoring a 1972 Mustang that came with a 351C 2V engine. The heads are "messed up" but you have found a "yard" that has several sets of possible heads to replace your heads, all with the correct date code. Which of the following heads would not be a good candidate for your restoration?

A. D0AZ-A

B. D1AE-A

C. D1AE-AA

D. D1AE-CB

Good Luck!

BT
The correct response is "B." Strange as it may seem (on the surface) the D1AE-A head was actually cast for the 400C and has a different combustion chamber volume than the 351C 2V.

Not a 351c head.
400, 78.4cc chambers, 2.04/1.66 valves, same config as early 2V head

D1AE-A is the wrong set of heads for this motor, these are for a 400
the chamber is 78.4 the I/E 2.04/1.66

If you could find a good set with the following casting number you would be all set.
D0AE-E
D0AE-J
D0AZ-A
D0AZ-B
D0AZ-D
D1ZE-CB
D1AE
D1AE-AA
D1AE-CB
The chamber is 78.2 the I/E is 2.04 1.68

Good Day All!

Sorry for just posting this up but Roy (tnfastbk) is in town and we just returned from dinner...More about this on the VIP ForumBig Grin!

Several of you posted the desired response but the first General Member to respond correctly was..."TheJ" who identified "B" as the heads that would not be a good candidate for the restoration of a 1972 Mustang with 2V heads. This is the second "win" for Jayson who appears to be "on a roll."

Strange as it may seem (on the surface) the D1AE-A head was actually cast for the 400C and has a different combustion chamber volume than the 351C 2V.

It is also of note that "Don65Stang" was the first VIP Member to provide the desired response and has earned "bragging rights" amongst the VIP Member for this week's WFQ.

Congratulations Jayson and Don!
