Weekly Fun Question for 4-02-2011
Good Day All:

The Weekly Fun Question (WFQ) is an exercise to give "General" members the opportunity to test their knowledge on information relative to the '71 - '73 Mustangs. It is also designed to allow the same members the chance to "win" a nice #1 Icon when they are the first to provide the desired response. If a general member "wins" on three separate occasions, the member will have his/her membership (a $25.00 value) paid for a VIP subscription.

Please note that when you respond to this post, your "answer" will not appear until the end of the current contest (usually at approximately 7:00 P.M. {CST}) the following Monday when the thread is normally transferred to the "Archives" Forum.

While VIP members can also "play", their reward is "bragging rights" amongst their peers on the VIP Forum. General members are NOT competing against VIP members in this exercise. VIP members have their very own "contest" which has even more substantive awardsSmile.

The question for this week is:

Can you explain what was the difference (if any) in the stock gas tank capacities of the 351C Mustangs during the 1971 - 1973 period?

Good Luck!

BT
The fuel tanks for All Mustangs (250, 302, 351 and yes even the 429) had the same capacities for their respective years. The '71 Mustangs (to include the 351C for that year) ALL had 20 gallon tanks. The '72 - '73 Mustangs (to include the 351C) ALL had 19.5 gallon tanks. So, the difference is the .5 gallon decrease on the '72 - '73 Mustangs from the one found on the '71 Mustangs.

The only difference I'm aware of is that of the venting for the tank....the 71 -72's were rear vented and the the 73 has the evaporative venting through the charcoal canister. They also changed from the pop open gas caps because they would leak in a rearend collision.

Hello all!

Again I am going to guess at the 72 capacity because I do not have any books on the 72. But I do have the illustrated facts books for 71 and 73 so here goes!

71 says all bodystyles used 20 gallon tanks
72 uses 20 gallon tank
73 says all bodystyles used 19.5 gallon tanks

I am just here to eat my lunch and screw stuff up!!!!!Haha

This was a little bit of a "trick" questionSmile.

The fuel tanks for All Mustangs (250, 302, 351 and yes even the 429) had the same capacities for their respective years. The '71 Mustangs (to include the 351C for that year) ALL had 20 gallon tanks. I am going to accept 71 ramair 4-speed mach 1 answer as being correct and declare him the general membership WINNER for this week's Weekly Fun Question.

"Bragging rights" from the VIP Forum membership goes to tnfastbk.

Please join me in congratulating 71 ramair 4-speed mach 1 and tnfastbk for a job "well done."

Thanks BT, After I answered the question I found the correct info in the "Data" section at the top of the page. I searched all over the internet and could not find the answer. I did not think of looking in the chilton book I do have one of those. Thanks again for the great questions!

Bring on the next question!!!!!
