Weekly Fun Question for 10-01-2011
Good Day:

The Weekly Fun Question (WFQ) is an exercise to give "General" Members the opportunity to test their knowledge on information relative to the '71 - '73 Mustangs. It is also designed to allow the same members the chance to have a nice #1 Icon added to their profile when they are the FIRST to provide the desired response. If a general member "wins" on three (3) separate occasions, the member will have his/her membership (a $25.00 value) paid for a VIP subscription.

Also, please keep in mind that ANY General Member can always sign up for VIP Membership (which helps with the administration of the Site) by paying the $25.00 subscription feeSmile!

Please note when you respond to this thread, you will not see your "answer" as the thread is designed to show the responses at the end of the current contest (usually at approximately 7:00 P.M. {CST}) the following Monday when the thread is transferred to the "Archives" Forum. So, even though there may have been a number of replies to the question, those replies may not necessarily be correct. Also, please keep in mind that in order for responses to "count" they must be posted up to this thread. PM to me will not do itSmile.

[/b] Today's contest will end at approximately 7:00 P.M. on Monday, October 3, 2011.

While VIP members can also "play", their reward is "bragging rights" amongst their peers on the VIP Forum. General members are [size=x-large]NOT
competing against VIP members in this exercise. VIP members have their very own periodic "contest" which has an even more substantive award.

The problem:

Under which of the following conditions was the 2.32 Ratio 4-Speed Manual Transmission available?

A. 1971 Mustang with the 429CJ engine

B. 1972 Mustang with the 351HO engine

C. 1973 Mustang with the 351-4V engine

D. None. All 4-Speed Manual Transmissions in the 1971 - 1973 Mustangs had the 2.78 Ratio

Good Luck!

BT
The desired response is A.

According to the Source, in 1971, there were 130 C-Coded 429CJ built with the Close Ratio 2.32 First Gear Ratio Transmission and 618 J-Coded 429CJ built with the 2.32 Close Ratio Transmission.

The Source also states there were 15, 439 4-Speed Transmissions built behind 302 2V, 351 2V, 351 4V, 351 Boss, and 351 HO Mustangs during the 1971 - 1973 Model years and EVERY one of them had the wide ratio 2.78 First Gear Ratio Transmission.

My restoration manual says it was available on 71 to 73's. But I'm going with A.

Answer is A. 1971 Mustang with the 429CJ engine (trans code RUG-AZ1) However, the 1971 351-4V could also get a 2.32 4/Spd (trans code RUG-AW1).
