Voting for car of the month (COTM)
#1
Maybe there should be a dedicated car of the month thread so that everyone can easily compare submissions. Maybe the voting system doesn't allow that, requiring separate threads for each submission? In any case I'd recommend holding off on voting until towards the end of the month so voters can actually compare "all" the submissions. Those who are submitting their cars should realize the reason they may not be getting early votes is that many are holding off until they've seen all submissions prior to voting. Just my thoughts.

Because of the looseness of the entry deadlines, people making decisions whether or not to participated, et al, the current system simply counts the "Like" votes and compares which entry has the most. It's the simplest way to do it... not to mention, someone who didn't make it one month, is eligible for the following month(s) and not lose any "Likes," which helps during the times when there's a lull in voting or nominees. This also leaves responsibility of the vote on the general membership, so there's no chance of staff/moderator bias becoming an issue.

EVERYBODY is worthy of having their car selected as COTM - but some just don't actively participate. It's not perfect, and maybe there's a better way to do it, but I'm glad we have the current system in-place.

I agree we need to overhaul the COTM try and get more people to partisapate.
I also agree with Don about the counters starting at Zero Every month.

I will talk to caspianwendell, and Rocketfoot and see what we can do.

Guys all submissions are supposed to be in by the 15th, you can always change your vote, so it makes little since to me to start at zero every month and have to vote for the same car again? But I do agree having to view each submission is a pain, but this way each person has his own thread for comments, pics, and hall of fame. That being said I am open to all suggestions, and will go with majority on this

I agree!

I'm leaning more towards leaving the system the way it is. When you vote or like for a COTM and you see a better choice that comes along, you can always un-like your first vote. We do have a lot of lulls for submissions so all entries usually get selected eventurally. Resetting votes to zero may also discourage the members who have already voted to got back to the same thread to vote again each month. We do have the two categories already, On the Road and Restoration Phase. So by those two categories they all deserve to be considered.

Trust me - that's totally NOT the intent... I was simply saying that everybody on this forum deserves to have their car featured - but there are only 12 slots available. Whether or not they decide to participate is a completely different story... as is the method in which the winners are picked.

The current scenario is like this (and it's happened before as well): You and I both nominate our cars for the COTM in January 2014. You get more 'Like' votes than I do, so you win January COTM. When February comes around, nobody decides to nominate their cars (for whatever reason). But rather than beg for people to participate, non-winning carry-overs from previous months are allowed [to continue] to participate, and whomever receives the highest number of 'Like' votes is February's winner - in this case, me because I nominated for January's award and lost to you, and have 'Like' votes logged on my entry - and nobody else decided to play.

The number of 'Like' votes isn't reset to zero, simply because if someone voted for my car once, they'll likely do it again - saves them the hassle of having to go vote again.

Again - it's not perfect, but it seems to work, given the number of people each month clamouring to become nominees. Wink Big Grin

I do think that having a single COTM thread each month featuring all of the nominees would be helpful. The thread could show the best single picture of each entry and have a link to their write-up, and maybe even post it as a voting thread for head-to-head voting. I don't think that will eliminate the occasional need for carry-overs, though. Having that head-to-head vote would cause the need for a double vote to happen ("Like" vote on the nominee's write-up thread, as well as the head-to-head vote), but in the grand scheme of things - how tough, difficult, much effort, etc., is that really? rofl

(Be advised: If we ever do enact the 'head-to-head vote' or something like it, and someone complains about having to vote twice... I will SO come up with a 'Whiner-Baby' award. Wink Big Grin )

I agree there..Thanks for clearing that up Wink

I keep waiting for a month when there aren't any submissions for the COTM so I can sneak mine in Smile
