I have to see the answer to this one. My Ford Master Parts List says there were no locking axles below 3:00 in '71 (i.e. no 2L*), but there were 2.75 in 9" and 2.79 in 8" in '72, so I would say....

None of the above: All of the above

I must just not be getting the question this time. Sad

SUPERSTARS!

It appears that Don (Don65Stang) really submitted a "head scratcher" this week!

To repeat the problem:

Which of the following (for the first part) is an accurate depiction of the axle ratios that were available on the 1971 Mustangs but were not available on the 1972 Mustangs and (for the second part) which axle ratios were available on the 1972 Mustangs were not available on the 1971 Mustangs?

A.) 3L00, 3L91, 4L11 : 2L79
B.) 3L00, 3L91 : 2L75, 2L79
C.) 3L00, 4L11 : 2L75, 2L79
D.) 4L11 : 2L75, 2L79, 3L00

Note: L denotes Traction-Lok

The desired response is:

C.) 3L00, 4L11 : 2L75, 2L79

EXPLANATION:

The 3L00, 3L91 and 2L75 were available in 1971, 1972 and 1973

The 4L11 was available in 1971 only

Most of the usual sources show the L-Coded 2L79 axle as only being available in 1973 Mustangs. However, as was brought to my attention by Don, Kevin Marti's "Tag Book" and the "Mustang 1964 1/2 - 1973 Restoration Guide shows the option was available in 1972. The door code "L" 2L79 axle tag code is WFL-B, part # D3OZ-4304-A. Yes, a D3 Part Number. According to the source, it was an ratio that became available for 72 models on 5/15/1972 in an 8" ring gear.

Sneaky Guy, that Don65Stang!

Based on the above, TheJ provided the desired response and has earned the Icon and "Bragging Rights" for this week's VIP WFQ. He also has earned the option to develop the next VIP WFQ.

Congratulations Jayson - - You did REAL GOOD on a very difficult problem!!
