Vin Number BIG ISSUE!
#1
Well.. as I mentioned, I have a 1972 Mustang Sportsroof, the only one left in my country...
The car was imported by the USA Embassy (i have no clue if it spells that way Tongue) and then sold to the guy who sold the car to me last year...
The car is really weird in the options it have... It has a supposed factory L6 250 1V, Manual 3 gear transmision, a big set of ventilated front discs with a powerboost, and a big rear axle... not sure which one but it´s very very similar than any V8 small block axle...
Of course the data plate on the drivers door is not legible at all and the vin number under the front fenders is missing due to rust repair years ago...
The only legible vin number is the one in the dash, drivers side and it´s a totally clear...

2F023I89837

Yes!... there´s a number 3 in the place you supose to find a letter that tells you the engine code... I could post a picture of it tomorrow for you to see it as clear as i do, but believe me... the number 3 is there...
We can discuss if the letter "I" is a real I or maybe an "L" or even a "1" but it´s irrelevant now!!

If someone has any clue what that "3" means, you will become my heroe!
It´s really hard for me, from here to find things like that becauseI have no other car to look and compare... I´m all alone!!}

Besides that, and other rare things about my car are for example:

The hole factory original mach 1 Grille... even the wires are there and remember... in Uruguay, 20 + years ago nobody could get a mach 1 grille to change the looks of this kind of cars... Here, my car is the only sportsroof to step foot in!
There is more but for now, the vin issue is priority!

Thanks!!

Damián

Great car! I think there are an error/an mistake by the factory in the VIN number. The L and the 3 are rotated.
The correct VIN number is : 2F02L389837

That means you have :
2 Model Year 1972
F Assembly Plant Dearborn: Dearborn, Michigan
02 Line, Series, Body Type SportsRoof
L Engine Type 250 ci 1V 6 cyl 98 hp
389837 Production Sequence Number 389837

In position 6-11 the production number must be in place.

Greetings David

You know what.. that makes total scence... Clever David, clever!!! je! Is the "389837" a logical production number?
What do you mean with "In position 6-11 the production number must be in place"? Sorry... My english is a little rusty too Tongue
Done then! it´s a monday morning car for sure Tongue at least is a monday morning data plate... je!
Is this combination or I6 and Sportsroog 1972 mustang a common one?? I couldn´t find pictures of cars like mine... maybe everybody switch to V8... Sounds logic

yes! Uruguay has errors even in cool cars... shame it´s not a coin Tongue

Hey... what do you think then about my car?... in your opinion people, should i try to keep it factory original or try to invest money in that subject or should i put my mind on making a performance car with it??
What would you do??
I´m not a race kinda guy, but this mustang is slow even for my grandma Tongue

Order a Marti report and see how many with your options where made. That might lead you in the direction you want to go. Personally I did not care how mine came I'm building it to what I want. Its all in what you want to do, stock, restomod, or whatever.

well its originally a Inline 6 car structurally its the same as the V8 cars. Its not a problem like the early mustangs where the V8 cars got extra shock tower re-enforcement, so you can pretty much do what ever you want to it, everything will just bolt up to the chassis, minus the staggered rear shock option.

yes... i should order one... remember the only vin i have is the one we discuss early in this post....
I maybe open a new post to talk about what kind of mechanical imporvements should i make if i decide to keep the car looking like factory and improove it mechanical...

Engine and Transmision are obvious upgrades.... and as i have no rear axle code, i dont know if it will work with a HP boost coming from some V8 engine...
Can a front stock suspension be a problem?
