trunk seal install
#1
ok i have a dumb question. which way does a fastback trunk seal install. it seems to me it can go either way in the track. one side of the strip has two "u" shaped indentations. the other side has a v shaped indentation.. im trying to figure out if the v shaped part overlaps the outside of the gutter or inner towards the trunk. i feel it goes outward but im not sure. then i have to align trunk. sits high on passenger side

Sorry for no replies. I went and looked and I do not have a pic. I can get a pic of an original tomorrow if you want.

Thanks for the reply. I just feel it could go both ways and I can't find a diagram online for the fastback piece. It shows which way to install a coupe on cj pony parts site but the fastback simply shows the actual piece only

Does this help? Taken from my '73 Mach 1.

Yes it does. Looks like the v wedge opening faces out and goes onto the surrounding body. The inner lip gets covered slightly by the side with 2 u shape grooves. Ty. Now onto trubk alignment. My hinges have a be bent. Passenger side sits 1/4 half inch higher than body. No quarter was ever replaced

Hello again Mr. Fox,

This may also be of help to you.

See my post on trunk alignment.thumb

Your hinges have to be in good order for a start, and not bent or damaged.
On 1,2,3 Mustangs, trunks that sit up or rise to the passenger's side, and sit above the quarter or rear guard/ fender, are a common problem. My '73 Vert had this problem, and i fixed it with my trunk alignment trick. It's a factory fault design problem that cause this to happen, and my remedy is about the only way to get out of jail so to speak. My remedy works!thumb
