Thought you should know
#1
I tried listing photos in one of my posts, I knew they were large but wanted to see if you allowed for them to be big. Anyway I typed in my response to some of the replys and went to add the photos, as soon as I CLICKED add attachment it took me to a blank page and removed everything that I had posted, FYI I use Firefox.

It looks like its not catching that the photos are to large, I use the same boards.

Instead of it looping to say something like IMAGE IS TO LARGE it just takes me to a blank page, if someone else does this after making a big post and before adding there photos and it loses all that info its going to become frustrating to the members.

Give it a try yourself you'll see what I mean.

Thought Id help you out, I know its hard running a site and making everything work perfectly. Just wait til someone gets mad at you over something crazy, it does get frustrating some times! I had one guy get really made at me because I didn't welcome him to the site, he got pissed and told me he would never be back. I honestly couldn't believe it since it wasn't something I did intentionally. All my members even get an instant private message as soon as they register.

On another note:
I have a few sites just thought Id let you know.

Mach1Club.com been around about a year.
FastBackClub.com been around about 1 month.
StangsForSale.com Pretty new site, I wanted to give Mustang people a place to sell 100% free There will NEVER be a charge to anyone listing on StangsForSale.com

The reason I'm telling you this stuff is maybe we can work with each other and help each other out with linking or banners etc..

I also have another site I'm still in the process of working the bugs out: Its pretty self explanatory.

BestMustangSites.com

With all the other BIG TIME Mustang sites out there its really tough to get into the rankings of a search engine, having a bunch of sites that link to each other relating to the same stuff is a big help.

Let me know your thought. I'm not after anything from you, and nothing we do together will cost you anything with me. We are just 2 small guys trying to carve a niche that is tough to do.

I noticed you registered on my website (RocketFoot) and didn't confirm registration?? Did you not get an email?

Thanks for the heads up...I'll check it out. I love mybb but it does have it's quirks!

I did register but never got the validation email. I resent it twice also to no avail. I did check my junk mail folders also.

Sounds good with the links and all! I already have Mach1Club.com on our links page. http://www.7173mustangs.com/misc.php?page=links

It's late now but PM me sometime and we'll talk about some ideas!! Cool

Sure, we can talk maybe tomorrow (monday) or something.

Back to the image upload problem...I wasn't able to recreate. I have the upload size allowance set pretty high since I have unlimited disc space on this server. What size and type of file where you trying to upload? Maybe I need to adjust the size on one of the attachment types?

It was huge like a meg, believe me I know size is an issue, I have my jpgs & gifs set to 500k. The problem is today cameras take huge photos and alot of people are not that savvy when it comes to knowing how to reduce them.

Ill make this post and test the photo thing again for you.
ok I just tried to upload a 1.9 meg file. I know thats huge, I didnt realize it was that big when I was trying to upload it initially.

Anyway what the forum is suppose to do is loop around and say

I just tested uploading the same size file on my site and took the screen shot.

When I uploaded the large photo to yours it takes me to this link

http://www.7173mustangs.com/newreply.php...rocessed=1

but the page is blank. If you arrow back then any verbiage posted is lost.

Are you sure you cmod everything correctly?

OK, I did get it to reproduce the white page. I've been talking to my host and they managed to change my max_upload to 2mb! it was 50mb! LOL...so I'm getting that fixed and checking with mybb staff to see if they have any ideas.

test

ok well it worked. BUT!!

You are not going to want to keep the ability to upload that large of files.

Seems like you have a shared/hosted account, however keep in mind that allowing these large of files is A) going to suck up hard drive space on your hosting account and B) you will use a tremendous amount of Bandwidth because anyone that views a particular file/photo is actually downloading that file.

Additionally it will just cause your site to feel slow to members that have to DL a picture that is in my case nearly 2 megs.

We should talk bro I can help you.

What you really have to be careful of is that everything your doing works right the first time. There's no do overs when it comes to running a site, what happens is your beginning to gain members, if you have to shut the site down lets say with 500 members because of issues, you will lose members. They are not forgiving.

I once had a website that was an auction type site, I was trying to compete with ebay. Anyway I had gained about 4500 members that were actually using the site with over 20000 listings, one day, my auction script got hacked, I lost all members information and all their ad listings. I had it backed up but the hack created an issue that I could not use the backup, so I had to start over from scratch. Do you know the site was online for 4 more years and never got more than 100 members, why? Because people lost faith in my ability to run a site and moved on to other sites, or just decided to stick with ebay.

Anyway the moral of this isn't to try to be a know it all, but to help you.

Gotta get this right the first time. We definitely should talk.

Ok well after looking at this a little further it looks like you have a photo reducer now. That will definitely help.

Ill let you do your thing. I'll be glad to help you if you need anything.

LOL, no problem! I can use all the advice I can get! But yeah, I installed the image reducer so people can upload larger pics. the reducer sizes them down and prevents breaking the margins. The gallery doesn't have a reducer on it so I limited the photo sizes to 1024x768. That saves the file size while also protecting the margins from huge photos! People just have to resize to upload in the gallery. I definately love running forums! Love plugins too (at least until upgrade time...LOL)
