Tail-Light Sockets
#1
Does anyone know of a source for replacement 71-73 tail-light sockets? I can't find anything.

The failure rate on cores that are being turned in is running 60 - 80%, which means I throw an awful lot of sockets out before I can find ones that have good continuity. The problem is in the crimping of the wire tips or somewhere inside the socket itself, but the design is such that I can't get into it to fix them.

I had the issue with the corrosion inside the connector causing the tail light bulbs to be very dim, I tried cleaning them but a few months later, I was cleaning them agian, I did use the dielectric greese, and I ended up using LED bulbs.

I've used it to "save" sockets, switches, and potentiometers. I used it, along with the Gold product, to "repair" two vintage pre-amps two weeks ago. They also have a product that does great things for tube sockets as well. It actually does everything they say it does. However, it won't re-solder broken connectionsTongue. I think the socket is listed here http://www.dormanproducts.com/flipbook/2...index.html
check page 34, item 85825. Let me know if you find something that works for you. Chuck

That's close, and I found a PICO part that looks just like it. However, the real deal has the 1 1/8" holder half-way down the socket, so that the back side is 9/16" behind the light bucket and there's another 9/16" of the socket sticking into the housing. This item has no portion of the socket sticking in the housing. While it is likely fully functional, I wonder if someone makes a better version like what was actually used.
