When you get it installed if you could post some pics of the install and a short review that would be great.

73 Grandé H Code. Headman long tube headers, T-5 Transmission, 3.70 Traclok, Lowered 1" all around, Aussie 2v heads w/ 2.19 intake, 1.71 exhaust, screw in studs, full roller cam 608/612 lift 280/281 duration LSA 112, Quick Fuel 750 CFM double pumper, AirGap intake.

no switch. instructions claim it works on 4,6,8 cyl. we'll see.

If it's not an inductive connection to a spark plug wire I'm not sure how the tach could tell how many cylinders the engine has with a connection to the coil.

Jason is correct, there is usually a switch. An engine fires 2, 3, or 4 times per revolution, depending on if it's 4, 6, or 8 cylinders. Maybe there's something in the initial setup.
