Sport Mirror aplicability
#1
Looking at replacing my 2 outside mirrors with the correct sport mirrors. I am wondering which years and Ford models are compatable with the  71-73 Mustangs? I have a '72 sportsroof with rivnuts already installed.
The passenger door is from a Mach 1 and has the rivnuts from the old mirror still installed, the driver's door is original as far as I know and also has the rivnuts installed. The driver's door panel has the cutout for the remote adjustment lever. I have seen several aftermarket chincy plastic mirrors online, but also seen some nice correct ones.  Just wondering which models will also  work on a '72.................Torino, Pinto, Mustang II, earlier models 69-70??????????

Not sure about all but 69 70 stang mirrors look similar and may fit but are not the same. The housing is shorter than 71-73s

The head of the sport mirror was common to all models that had them and will interchange. The base varied to suit the door.

69-70 Mustang
71-73 Mustang
69-70 Cougar
71-73 Cougar
70-up Maverick
71-up Comet
70-71 Torino
72- Torino
70-71 Montego
72- Montego

There are probably others, but you get the idea

^^ what he said. The mounts mate the housing to the slope of the door where the mount attaches. That little character line on the Mustang door has a different slope and curvature than on other cars, so make sure the part is right for your use. I would also be suspect of rivnut placement on the driver's door. The standard mirror mounting screws are in a different place than the sport mirror screws relative to the cutout for the mirror adjuster.
