Power Window SAGA ........
keep in mind I've found 4 original great condition sets ...prices ranging from 1100. to 3000.00. I was willing to pay the 1100 to 1400 as over priced as they were. 1 set was sold out from under me, one set was 3000.00, another set I missed by 2 days, and the last set I found yesterday....didnt even exist at the supplier. "uhhh sir I'm sorry we won't be able to place your order that set was sold 2 years ago." Huh Me; Then why is it on your site for sale?

you're not going to believe THIS!! for 3 years.... I've ask every Mustang supplier and more than 20 other sites trying to find ANYTHING to fix my power windows. As most of you recall, I decided lately screw it, I'll do the mod version and customize the interior so I CAN ENJOY my car. THEN only to discover if you have a CHEVROLET.... you can get them. They dont make the correct version for our Stangs (wiring polarity) Among many calls Thursday, even the manufacturer supplier told me .... "I dont think they will work on your car".

NPD........
I've ask off an on from THESE GUYS like many others... do you know where I can find the retro mod style and I'll use those. No luck from anybody. Hell even the Mustang suppliers either dont know or won't give the lead to NPD. I'm sure they feel if they "HELPED" a customer the customer would stray to NPD. I even called NPD YESTERDAY!!! and the guy told me they didnt have them and no idea who made them or where I could find a set.
scroll down a bit part number 14927-

http://www.npdlink.com/store/?p=catalog&...&year=1971

EXACTLY what I ask for!!!! Angry
oh and for a fun fact. I was sitting here today and kept thinking "I've seen the retro style at a Mustang supplier....so I called NPD again, got a different sales guy on the phone, NOT only have they been carrying them for TEN YEARS... the supplier mentioned above that I called Thursday also....HE IS the one that MAKES them!!! shrug2

Not exactly sure what your looking for but the gear in my 73 was broken and found these. It worked perfectly...Also, check out the second link for the master switch for $20. Let me know what you need because I already went through this and might be able to help.

So did you find the in time or have you already modified your interior?

The 73 switches are available over the counter at any parts store and are not the same as the switches you found.

I was surprised to see all of the versions of the glass is now available - the last time I checked they were rare and expensive. I have several sets of glass set back from various parts cars.

So do you now have everything you need?

Hi Dana,

Can't help you with your specific problem, but can advise you to think outside of the square if you want, and consider going to a good quality aftermaket company called Nu Relics.

They specialize in power windows for Classic cars, and cator specifically for our '71-'73 stangs.Could be what you're after maybe.Shy

Yeah, you get a lot of that today, where companies and staff don't know what the left arm and the right arm are doing sindrome. Can drive you up the wall.

Thanks Jeff!! I appreciate the effort. My issue is my windows and motors work great. It's the bezels and clips. Nobody makes the clips and the bezels are somewhat rare. So replacement parts are EXTREMELY rare.

Hey Paul!
In my car, the base for the switches, the ears are broken off most. Then add the issue with missing clips and when you put the door panels on, the bezels won't attach. Think back .... how many have you seen in the past with UGLY screws in them to hold them on?

So I'm missing one single window bezel two rear base, all four base clips etc etc etc. The 73? well as you noted ...completely different from the 71. EVERYbody sells their bezels without clips....they are thin a break easily. However IF I could find a complete set up.... i would use the 73 set up.

Greg.... thanks I've thought so far out of the "square" that I've even considered old Lincoln set ups. NuRelics unfortunately they dont carry any of the switch components.

Believe me.... I have researched parts literally EVERY weekend I've owned the 71...... that's 150 plus searches minimum. Sad

I never intended on becoming a semi-savant on power window stuff it just happened.

My 1st convertible was a 73 that I got for free when I was in school. 302 3 speed manual absolutely no options. Shortly after that my girlfriend (now my wife of 25 years) bought a 73 Grandé that was loaded including PW's.

As things stopped working on her car I got pretty good at fixing them including her finicky PW's.

Then a parts car came along that had PW's so I transplanted them into my convertible.

Then I had 2 cars with finicky PW's. Then pancake motors failed and quickly learned how much fun they are. Then whole parts cars were purchased just to get pancake motors.

Then the word got out I could fix them - now I had half a dozen or so finicky PW's to work with.

Then some body actually paid me a whole bunch of money for a complete PW setup if I would install it as well. (I lost my ass on it by the time all 4 went up and down on command)

Then we moved from Florida to MO and was able to sell 3 complete PW set ups for enough money to pay to transport 2 Mustangs, 1 Torino, and a 61 Starliner from FL to MO. I thought we were going to have to leave some cars behind.

I had my best parts hunting luck with Cougars. I still call on every local 68 and up cat car especially XR7's and still find PW cars - they just aren't
available for 200 bucks anymore.

At $1,000 bucks you should still be able to find a PW cougar, pull the PW's and sell off the rest of the parts.

All I have left is a 73 PW harness that is pretty cut up. I do have a set of 73 bezels but they are nasty.

It sounds like you are getting close - don't give up!

Please explain more about the clip issue you are having. I may have what you need or a proven work around.

Wow- Congrats Dana on your search. I knew the power windows were tough to come by. Sure sounds like the choices/options are becoming more plentiful.

You mentioned in your first post of this thread, "1 set was sold out from under me". That reminded me about a similar situation in my past.

I learned about 30 years ago, until I have the cash in the hands of the seller and the actual item is in my hands - there is NO SALE. NADA. Of course I have been messed around on both sides of this coin. For one instance, I had a FE tri power intake that I bought just to resell. A guy called me and told me he wanted it. I said no problem. He asked me to hold onto it and he'd get back with me to get me some money. He was a friend/acquaintance, so not someone I had never heard of. Basically I put trust in his word and ASSUMED he would be contacting me soon. I had numerous others who wanted it BAD at the time and had CASH. But I held it for the friend. I actually was really busy and after a few months ran across the intake in the garage and wondered what ever happened to that guy who wanted to buy it! I never got ahold of him then did some exhaustive calling to other friends and they said he had bought another one with one of the carbs a few months back!!!! He never EVER called me to tell me he did not want it anymore. A few years later - I saw this guy at a car show.I asked him what happened to our 'deal'. He said we had NO DEAL as he had not given me any money. He basically laughed in my face and told me I'd learn. I was upset but he was a 'big guy' in our local car club. I was the young new kid! I have to tell you I was stupid and trusting and very naive !!! But I did learn. You have nothing bought until both money and possession of the item have changed. You can only imagine how upset I was. I was wanting to fight or sue him just to make me feel better. But I 'learned' there was really nothing I could do. He was simply that type. Again - I LEARNED. I got so mad I basically gave the intake away just so I did not have to look at it anymore!

I say all that to simply say (again) - everyone needs to understand it is nothing is sold until it is paid for and it is not yours until it is delivered/received by you. I hope all will avoid learning like I did! I'm sure most have "learned' in a similar fashion but if not - learn from me.

I hope this doesn't hijack this thread about power windows. I'm sure plenty are looking for the different pieces. Dana- it might help if you could put together a list of different parts required to restore a power window setup and then whether each is re-popped or otherwise available. Since you have spent so long I figure you have the best info! (Just an idea...) You have become one of our Power Window experts! LOL I know if I had a need for anything power window related - I'd be hitting you up! Thanks Dana.

Hey Paul
I'm going to take a close look at this set up when it arrives. If it functions proper it will end that issue. Sounds like you did what I've been attempting. I've looked at Cougar (perfect match), Montego, Monterey, LTD, Galaxie, Lincoln, comet, maverick all body styles, all 71 to 73 for a parts car, these were most often available in convertibles as you probably know. I've looked in city after city, countless hours. Looks like we could get together on these things.

The solution I found is not good.... just works. it is a gang of 4 not 5, fast forward the space for the 5 will leave a gap in my door panels hence the custom interior to rid of the half butted "lets make do" application. HOWEVER it will be complete and nice. I wouldnt refer to this as a solution but ending a problem. OF COURSE..... a nice set will show up as soon as I have all this installed......

Can you make the 73 switches work by just changing the covers/caps?
Heard they are close but not the same?
