Sequential Tailight Update.
#1
Hi all,

I promised i would get back and let folks know about my enquiery with the sequential light kit that NPD was selling.

I made contact via Email to NPD, and asked a few tech questions about the kit. Here are the responses -----

Greg,

Item 13465-71SK2 LED ($233.95) sequential tail light kit is made to be a plug and play scenario with no modifications necessary. You will also need the Heavy duty flasher unit 13350-6 when using the above kit.

Thank you,

JT Schimborski

Greg,

I checked with our research department and they have given the following responses to your inquires:

However, what I was interested in specifically was, with the three lens setup on the Mustang taillights, the original center lens has the backup white light only. Answer - The Led kit just changes the bulb configuration to LED’s, does not alter the lens

With your new system, am I to understand that the center lens will now have a combination of led lights. By that I mean will that combination be a mix if red leds and white leds for backup,Answer - no

Or have normal white leds(the red colored lens does the red light up work in this case) and also white leds for backup? Answer - yes

Also, I assume that when you put your foot on the brake pedal, the three lenes will light up, and when you use your flasher, the three lenes will light up red sequentially. Have I got that correct?Answer - Yes

Also, I was not sure about the center lens with the red and white light bleeding into each other, because I don’t think there is any little dividing wall to separate the two different colored
Lights. Also. When you put your park lights on, does the three lens red taillights come on at once? Answer - Yes

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions

Thank you,

JT Schimborski

This new info makes it a going proposition for me even though it's not cheap to buy. Hope that helps,

Thanks Greg! That's good info. I'm thinking that might even be the way to go with Obsidian's modern lenses, and just find a way to light up the outer rings - maybe try some formable inline LED chains that JimNiki used in the past with standard tail lights. Neat stuff!! thumb

What would be ideal is some sort of flexible plastic neon luminescent tube type.
They've been around for a while for pc modding, etc, but they're just not bright enough at the moment...
That would do away with the led dots and look closer to the look we're after...

Then again, we need to look to see if the chinese have already got a led strip where the leds are so close together that it looks like one continuous light.

Wendell,

So does it have center lights same as outer with backup or not?

Answer - Yes it does have center lights same as outer and has backup light as well. You can see a separate backup LED sitting in the middle of the board.

To be more specific, the maker of this product has placed a cluster of white LEDS in the center cavity, that will do the job of lighting up the center lens cavity for the purpose of red brake light/red turn light/ and red tailight. The red colored Mustang center lens itself, will do the job of delivering a red light effect for those three purposes.

In the middle of that main LED cluster, sits the white LED backup light, that of course will shine through the little square clear lens itself, for backup ilumination.

The overall end result, is that this system gives 'three full lens functionality'. You get 3 lens brake light/ true 3 lens sequential turn/ 3 lens park lights/ and separate white backup light as per usual in the center lens.

Also, it looks like you'll have to upgrade to a stronger flasher unit from what they say. Looks like this one ticks all the boxes, but i guess it's like anything else in life, you've got to try it out yourself and see if you're really happy with the product in the end.

Thanks for drawing it to the forum's attention in the first place Wendell, and don't forget to get a good night's sleep.Tongue

That's the way I understood it from the beginning, but the answers were a bit confusing in my state of mind (wiring a modded 54 Mercedes 300 that i'm trying to get put back together)

I've had a slow progress, I got busy at work and had not time to get back to it.
