Screeching fan motor
#1
All,

we've got a good AC in the 71, does a nice job of cooling even in the extreme Aug Texas heat. However.... occasionally, the fan motor will just "screech" something awful. Maybe just a second or 2, maybe 5-10 secs, then it stops.

I'd really like to just lube the bearings in there if possible, maybe hold it off for awhile... because I'd really rather NOT do a dash-dive right now. Pulling the dash might take me a month to pull it all and put it back together at the rate I work...

Any advice for how to stave off the inevitable???? The heater hoses have been cut (not much need for heaters in this gulf coast climate) so I know we're going in there eventually. Just don't really want to do it right now.

Quick fix? please?

Jay

You may be able to get to it
look up and to the center of the car by the gas pedal.
Blower motor is right above the trans hump

Go to hardware store maybe Lowes or home depot
Get " zoom spout oiler " small bottle of oil with a long pull out spout

1 bearing on end of shaft, other is in the middle of the shaft, at each end of the motor.

You might be able to get the 5 ot 6 screws out and pull out the motor and blower wheel or at least tilt it for access.

Thanks Don- Thats some good info. I am thinking if I can just get some oil on it, it will go significantly longer. The zoom spout oiler is something I didn't know about. Thank you.
