SBC in my 71 coupe
#1
I'm building a stroked 429 SBC. Engine builder want to know which oil pan sump I'll need. I have a 71 mach 1 with a 351c that I love so don't flame me for this motor in my coupe lol. It's gonna be fast. Anyone put an SBC in one of these? What should I look out for?

Thanks , Bill

Welcome from Iowa. That is sacrilegious.

'73 Grandé H Code. Headman long tube headers, T-5 Transmission, 3.70 Traclok, Lowered 1" all around, Aussie 2v heads w/ 2.19 intake, 1.71 exhaust, screw in studs, full roller cam 608/612 lift 280/281 duration LSA 112, Quick Fuel 750 CFM double pumper, AirGap intake.

'73 F code convertible. Bright red. Needs total restore. (IE HOT MESS)

Welcome from Colorado, I believe you will need a front sump pan. I don't think anyone makes motor mount conversion, so you might be in for some fabrication for the engine and tranny mounts.

Ugh.

Put a Ford motor in a Chevy. Think anyone on a Camaro forum will say anything? Hmmm.

I don't even like Chevy motors in a kit car. I have a 70 Chevy pickup. It has a 402 Chevy motor and will as long as I own it.

No flame here. -Maybe just spark and controlled ignition. Smile

Post up some pics of your Mach 1!

Ya I figured fabrication was instore. I made the trans mount for the c4 I put in my Mach. Hey I guys I still appreciate the responses haha. She'll be cool once she's together and only folks who notice headers and distributor location will even know it's a chevy

Sorry my friend, but that just ain't done!!! I see you are in Alaska, so perhaps it's hard to find real engines up there. Oh well, it's your car, your way.
I really hate it when at shows, someone has stuffed a Chevy lump into a Ford 30's coup, rod or whatever. While I will admit that having the dizzy at the back has it's advantages, not many, but some.
Anyway, sorry to beat you up on the SBC, you're most welcome here I'm sure and there is a ton of other stuff you'll likely need answers on, so just ask. There are many very experience members to help.
Good luck with your project,
Geoff.

Well at least it isn't a Toyota engine!

I have never met an engine that knew who made it. While it would not be my choice . . . the GM distributor in my Cleveland won't win me brownie points with any purists, but it just works.

Have fun and build a great car that suits you.

but its a shame to handicap such a great car with such a horrible engine

"I love my Hookers!" and "Get some Strange" probably have a different connotation to non automotive enthusiasts!

700hp she'll move this car fine just fine. Like I said iv got a pure Mach 1 other than the c4 I put inplace of the FMX. (I liked the FMX but was to damn heavy.) the Mach went on a diet.
