Rear window louvers vibrating like a paint shaker at 60mph
#1
ok, so unbelievably I got my 73 Mach 1 up to 63mph a few times yesterday without totally feeling like I was going to die. the screeching belts and wicked vibrations and wonky alignment are getting get triaged this week.  but the point of this post is the crazy vibrations I'm getting from the rear window louvers as soon as I hit 60mph...not 58 or 59, but 60 right on the nose.  I assume the louvers are original, and they are metal.
the start vibrating so fast the rear window literally becomes a blur in the rearview mirror, and the metal vibration sounds are LOUD.  there are no supports in the middle of the louvers as they span the entire back window, and they are sagging slightly from age.  has anyone else come up with a fix for this problem, or even had the same problem?  its annoying to the point that I would consider trying to find some an aftermarket louver if such a thing exists. thanks

I know I may be speaking heresy here ....but I'd remove rear louver's

I don't think they do anything for the look of the car.

sorry

There were NO original Ford louvers for 71-3 Mustangs

It's common for the louvers to have a rattle issue... that can be fixed with rubber tubing cut open and slipped on the braces
What you describe sounds way worse, it sounds like one or more of the slats may be bent and at that speed the air is picking them up ?
Also look to see it any of the slats are cracked

Rear tire balance or bent wheel are other possibilities.

I would say it points to rear tire balance as well. Had the same issue. I don’t have Lovures but would get a crazy vibration right at 65.

Good one!! Louvers have no place on a 71-73 imho. Don't even like them on car that they were an option on, but that's just me. goodpost

Well, I like em and have them on my car and I’m sure everyone has their own take on them. I wish they did have an original one offered from the factory. I’m sure they would have fit way better than the aftermarket ones do. Either way I love the way our cars look, with or without them. I have had them on my car for about 5 years now and I have had it up to 90-100 mph without any noise like you are hearing, must be something else like the others are saying. Hope you can figure it out.

When we lived in Las Vegas I was seriously considering them, more for reduction of the green house effect than aesthetics, but I always liked the looks of them. Being mostly retired now, I have better things to spend money on Smile
