Rear valence panel w/dual exhaust question

My 72 im deciding on what to do with my exhaust (just finished the 532 last year, just have mufflers bolted to the headers right now) Im deciding on if I should go out the back or the sides like I origionally planned. My brothers "ex" mach had it coming out the side before the rear tires and it looked awesome.

I was wondering if anyone who has the rear valence with the "openings" for dual exhaust what size exhaust pipe will fit in the opening, it looks like it would look good with 3'' tips out the back but if the "arches" are smaller and ment for 2.5'' exhaust from the factory ill definately go out the sides....

i doubt if is even legal to have the exhaust coming out in front of the rear tires... in maryland the exhaust has to come out behind the passenger compartment......ie, that would be legal on a pick up truck

not that i would be concerned about legalities on the stang.......

i bought an aftermarket rear valance with the cutouts and have 3" exhaust with chrome tips and it is not problem at all, clearance wise....

the valance fit like poo though and the body shop had to glass in the ends to make it look ok.......

I went the route of 2.5" stainless turndowns.

If you are doing 2.5 all the way I would stay with the 2.5 tips. I do not think 3" would look so good in the back.
I do not know about out the side, I think like side pipes if it comes out past the body you may be ok but I would ask locale inspection stations. Hummmmm....if they would know for an old car?????ha ha

Well out here in South Dakota, weve never heard of an inspection stationSmile
The side pipes my brother had were hardly noticeable, not like a Shelby Cobra that runs down the whole length of the rocker, they were 3'' off the muffler and gradually got bigger to the end which was a slash cut pipe. Im looking everywhere for a pic but cant find one since I moved into the new house. I dont know which way im headed yet... when I find my pics ill post one
