Real vintage Halibrands
#1
I have just chanced on a few sets of NOS vintage Halibrands 15x8 and 15x9.5 polished 5 spokes, 15x7 15x9 5 hole kidney beans and speedways. I can get them for about the same money as new centreline auto drags. Have a preference for 5 spokes or kidney beans. Thoughts please Gents

Will post some pics of actual wheels tomorrow

I’m not sure about a set of kidney beans on a 71-73 Mustang but they do sound like a good start for a hot rod done in a 50s-60s style.

Will the offset of the five spokes work on a Mustang? I’m guessing they won’t have enough back spacing.

Here are the wheels 15x9s have a 4.5 inch back space so probably won't fit with a 275 on them although he says that this Mach has the 9s on the back. think they are mid to late 80s manufacture but I dont know, sorry mobile phone pics again. oh and he has street swirls too

Hi Luke,

I personally like the deep dish kidney bean look myself on these cars.YOU WOULD WANT TO GET 8X15 WITH 4.5 inch BACKSPACE up front and 10x15 WITH 5" BACKSPCE FOR BACK, for the knockout look. Front fit won't be an issue, but anything less than a 5inch backspace for the back will create rub issues on the fender lips running 275/60 and 295/50 tyres on the back. Adding 5 leaf springs like i did gets you 'round that rub problem.

I run 10x15 with 5inch backspace Magnum 500's on 295/50 mastercraft tyres at the back, and it's all sweet.Looks always come down to personal preference as you know. Slotted mags are a traditional classic look and do suit out year Mustangs i think, although i love my Magnums to bits. Your call at the end of the day.

Gday Greg
I went to 5 leaf springs as my 8.5 275 magnums used to rub. would love to go 15x10 295 like you. could of lived with 15x9s but the backspace is a bit wrong bit of a bummer as the wheels are in as new condition.

I like five spokes on just about anything but those look better than most.

So here is the deal 15x8s with 4.5 backspace perfect for the front with 245s I know this as my magnums are this size. Rear 15x9.5 with 5.25 back space these should fit with 275-295s. I have 15x8 magnums with 4.5 bs and 275s now and they are ok with 5 leaf springs. Also i can have the backspace cnc milled to 5.5 back space if nessasary this is within Halibrands allowable 18mm of milling to charge Back space. Love to hear from you all, particularly if you disagree with the 5.25 back space for 9.5s on the rear.
Can get speed ways in the same rear size and 5.5 fronts for that old school big and little combo
