Ram Air decals
#1
Hello gurus,

I have been looking at lots of photos of cars and lots of Mustang suppliers ads.

I have seen NOS silver and black "Ram Air" decals.

Were these decals produced in body colors? For example, should there be bright red or lime ones available also?

Or did they use a template/decal that was peeled off after the black was applied to show the body colour underneath?

Looking forward to your thoughts.

I believe they were only ever made in black and argent to match the respective striping?

Thanks for the info.

Does anyone have an original paint car that has body colour stencils used or decals applied?

.jpg   351 RAM AIR.jpg (Size: 6.2 KB / Downloads: 154) They were never made or intended to be in body color. They either matched lower body color (black or argent) or if part of the hood was painted (same color as lower body color) the decal was the opposite of the hood paint treatment. (black or argent only)

Boss 351 only uses "RAM AIR" 351 and 429 cars used "351 RAM AIR" and "429 RAM AIR" respectively.

Now there's a trivia question....

OK, digging up a VERY old thread. A quick question and hopefully not a dumb one....Smile.....If one has already had their hood painted (black in this case). How would you go about applying a decal that say someone like Graphics Express sells? Are those only made to go on before paint? or are there decals that can be applied after paint....??

I'm only aware of ram air decals that go on after the paint. Argent in the case of a black hood treatment.

Correct. thumb

Clean the surface of all wax, oils, grease, dust, etc., then get some decal applicator gel or a spray bottle of water with a very little bit of dish soap mixed in. Apply the gel or soapy water to the area, lay the decal down and get it positioned, ensuring there is plenty of gel/soapy water underneath. Gently squeegee the water away from the decal, making sure to not move it around or make any creases. Let it sit for an hour or so, then gently remove the 'carrier' layer. Use a small squeegee to push out any remaining air/gel/water bubbles.

Placement can be a little tricky. I'm sure there's some dimensions out there somewhere, but I just eyeballed mine. Roughly 1.75"-2" rearward of the NACA duct insert, with the bottom of the letters along an imaginary line of the duct continuing around the corner. Make sure they're straight, otherwise it'll look off.
