Racing Mirrors
#1
So looking closely at my mirrors, the passenger side base is different than the driver side. The width of the base is fatter; the mirror housing looks pretty much the same as the driver side. Could I have a 69-70 passenger side racing mirror? What were the differences between 69-70 and 71-73?

I believe you "hit it on the head", Steve.

Based on my observations, the mirrors should be "mirror images" of each other with the only difference being how they are controlled. If you have the original gasket on them, I believe they will have the part number which should be a better clue.

Perhaps Don (OMS) or Mike (Motor City Mustang) will post up with something a bit more definitive but it sounds like you might have a mix-matched set.

I purchased a passenger mirror for my '71 Grandé only to find out
4 years later it was the wrong mirror. The mounting holes never
quite lined up and this was from a reputable online Mustang dealer.
The holes were close enough "for a repro" so I blew it off.
Somehow Don of OMS and I got into a discussion about mirrors and
he noticed the mirror was wrong, so I bought one from him that fits.
The mirror was for a '71 Ford, but not a Mustang.
Very close in appearance. The mirror on the left was sold as a '71
Mustang mirror, right came from Don.

Thanks guys. Mike, that's pretty much what I'm looking at. The car was in an accident some time before we got it and the whole passenger side had damage to it. There was a ton of bondo and a really cheap paint job; looks like they grabbed a mirror that was "close enough" and made it work. Angry
