Quarter window L bracket cage nuts
#1

Okay Guys, quick question...For the bottom "L" shaped bracket, what goes in those square holes? I had some cage nuts in there but they are loose and I think they are the wrong kind. Now I've read somewhere it takes cage nuts that you push in the holes and they'll snap into place. Is this true, and if so what size are they? Or, how'd you fix that issue? Thank You!

There are several types of nuts used by Ford as follows.
Cage nuts. These had a cage that held the nut and the cage was spot welded in place. The nut floated inside the cage. The cage kept the nut from rotating.
Weld nuts, Weld nuts were resistance welded in place and if they break loose are a pain.
Pierce nuts were clinched into the metal to hold them from rotation. Again when the break loose a pain.
If you do not have the right nut just improvise to get what you need.

NOT A T5, what you need is refereed to as a winged cage nut. Since that is not a fast mover or often sold part, chances are not good of finding new ones at your normal Mustang parts source. Ford part # is 374251-S. The only source I can find that sells these new is AMK products and they have a $30.00 minimum order. The nuts are $4.00 for two!
I would contact Don @ Ohio Mustang or Mike @ Motor City Mustang since they have parts cars  and see if they could help with these special cage nuts.
