Proportioning Valve Leaks
#31
Great work! As I read thru the thread, I was just about to reluctantly offer up my NOS valve, but now I can keep it.  Bravo

I bought one of the aftermarket replacements and the copper seal on top was leaking. I had to find a copper seal that size and replace it. When I looked at the one that came off the proportioning valve it had a blemish from the stamping process that caused it to leak. Same thing, I had to repaint everything around the prop valve!!! Good luck!!

Since you have been there and had to repaint everything around the proportioning valve I have to ask what you did to clean the area up.  I am thinking about spraying the area with brake cleaner to flush out any remaining brake fluid that washed down onto the frame rail.  Then what?  Sand it down smooth?  Wipe with lacquer thinner, etc to make sure I don't have any more of that brake fluid eating away at the car.

How did you re-spray?  Did you have an air brush?  Brush it on?  Or navigate a rattle can down there to get a coating on the areas?

Thanks!

I used rust-oleum automotive spray paint for my engine compartment, but I did prime everything with metal etching primer first, If I recall, because its a low visibility area after everything is installed, I just touched it up with some rust-oleum and a foam brush. I did clean everything up with mineral spirits first, and re-primed. If you look hard enough you can see the paint difference, but nobody has ever noticed!!! Remember, you are the only one that ever see's minor blemishes on your car. Good luck!! I REALLY hated doing all the brake work on my car. There is no easy/clean way to do it!!
