Ponies In The Sun (Yakima WA.)
#1
Today I attended the Ponies in the Sun car show in Yakima WA and it was a last minute decision to go. I had 640 miles of short trips on my car and figured that it was time to take it out on a longer trip so I put on 150miles today all freeway driving at 70mph. Car drove really well and I am going to fill it up and see what it did mpg wise tomorrow.

Anyway it was about 87* today and was a good day to get out before winter sets in again. There were about 150 cars there with 90% being Mustangs and a majority of them 64 to 66 and the newer 2000 cars. Overall I did fairly well and placed 3rd in the 69 to 73 MACH 1 division. The 2 69's took first and second and watching the crowds you could see that they favored the older Mustangs over 7173's. I was pleasantly surprised though as I got one of the Best in Show awards for my interior restoration on my car.

Some pics from todays show:

Great news John! It's great that your car got recognized considering how our years don't get much love.

How'd you like that GV overdrive on that long trip?

It ran very nice at 70 mph considering the 3.89 rear. It was turning around 2800 rpm at that speed. Didn't get a chance to put gas in today but I am curious what it did fuel wise at that speed. I'll try to do that tomorrow.

Pat,
Yeah I want to but I have another commitment (non car) that will prevent me from going. I was looking on the web at last years event and it looks to be a good event.

Gassed up the car today and it took 10 gals to go the 157 miles at 70 mph.

So I got 15.7 mpg with the 3.89 rear with the GV so I am really happy with it. Best that I ever got when the car was new was about 10 mpg with the 3.25 rear and not nearly as much HP.

Dude! That is kick ass mileage. I'll try to make it to the show in your area next weekend, so we can at least meet, even if the cars can't yet.
