Parking brake cable length
#1
I am trying to figure out the length of the parking brake cable and the housing shell (name??). Based on NPD's website the cables are 31" and 133 1/8" on LH and RH, respectively. Can someone please measure the length of housing shell? I mean the shelled part of the cable that goes between the drums and the underfloor bracket. Mine does not look original and I don't know if they are the same length. My current ones are about 20" long.
I need this so I can get the right cables from The Right Stuff for their rear disc brake kit, which was sold by CJ Pony. The two cables in the kit are the same dimension.
My 'tang is a 1971 Mach 1 with staggered shocks.

Can anyone with a Mach 1 measure the length of the parking brake cable's hard shell as explained above?
Thank you.

Tony, (I assume it is Tony.) It was kinda hard to measure it with the car on the ground, but using string walked along the cable I got 20 on the driver's side and 22.5 on the passenger's side. The NPD cable sound too long to me.
Let us know what you decide to do. Good luck. Chuck

Thank you Chuck. Actually, the dimension in NPD's catalog is in line with the dimensions I have seen in other catalogs. However, those dimension are for the whole cable and not only the hard shell. The RH cable goes all the way around to the front and then back to the LH side thus it has to be long.
Given you are measuring 20" and 22.5" for the hard shell tells me that mine at 20" is not that far off. The hard shell of the cable that came with the brake kit is 27" so it seems a bit long. The issue I have is that they are willing to give me a set of cables that is closest to what I have, but I am not sure if mine were original or not.
Has anyone have issues with the cable lengths when installing on of these kits? For tandem shocks the kit needs one caliper facing forward and another backwards, which would change the length of one side as compared to the original.
