New Seat cover questions/opinions
#1
I'm looking into these seat covers and was looking for some feedback. I really like these seats but I have concerns about the grommets. Not about them getting hot but how much do you feel them on your back or butt? Can anyone speak on these?
Or....I just get the ones in the last pic. Only question there is do the rear seats have anything special with regards to color? Also, does anyone make rear foam inserts for our cars? Thanks!

In wouldn't think the grommets would be bothersome for the far majority of most car guys.

I believe they're a good deal (when you shop around for the lowest price) compared to the cost of purchasing new foam, new covers and labor to install on the old seats-plus don't they recline?

I would just be concerned if the bottom cushion is higher than stock.

With regards to the lack of reclining on the factory seats...is there a year rail setup that has reclining that will work with a 73? Can I convert my factory seats? Thanks

These are TMIs covers, right? I have my eyes on the Mach 1 type covers (3rd pic). They sell only the covers, you have to buy the matching foam set.
Their website is confusing because they call them seats but they are seat covers, I believe.
4mm, I dont believe they sell the whole seats looke like the 3rd pic, they sell the cover and foam to fit in your current seat, so no reclining, unfortunately. I wish I can get a seat looking like that with reclining option, but I have not seen it. Please correct me if I am wrong. With these offers going on this weeks I really want a set.

You're correct that these are just the seat covers. You have to buy the foam and the skins and do it yourself. I plan on taking advantage of the sale this weekend too. I'm 95% sure I'm going with these...the no reclining thing is a real bummer. I'd love to find a factory seat set with recliners but I'm guessing that was never an option.

Which sale are you looking at?

I bought the TMI Products Sport Seat II upholstery kit & foam from CJPP. Love it! thumb

What you might consider is checking with TMI Products for their new Pro Series seats - they are full recliners, and a bolt-in option. They don't show the Mach 1 style seats in the catalog, but if you call them, I'm sure they would be able to fab up a set for you with whatever covers you like.

I'm thinking real hard about that, since mine don't recline (I used the stock frames as well). They are not cheap, though - last I saw, something like $1200/pair for just the fronts.

Let me know if you get the upholstery kit, though - I can offer up some tips on how to make installation a bit easier. Mine came out OK (my first time), but they could've been a little better. I have a whole new respect for people who do upholstery for a living. Wink

Ok.... i did a bit of research and I think I found the Pro Series seats with Mach 1 color. .... check this link,
https://www.dallasmustang.com/tmi-sport-...-pair.html

And I think MustanDepot has them as well.
Now, I need to continue the research because I think these have really tall backs and I dont know how if they will they fit.

Yup - that's the Sport R seat covers. I also think the 4-6 weeks wait is because DM will order them for you through TMI Products. Again, I'm thinking you could get whatever upholstery from them you like if you ask. I think one of the guys in the UK called them up for some new covers, and he was quoted the same price for a custom set as he would've paid for one of their 'off-the-rack' sets.

They look (proportionally) like they wouldn't be much if any taller than the standard Mach 1 seats.

The ones in my link are the actual Pro Series High Back seats with Mach 1 colors. Notice in the picture of the link that there is an actual handle to recline the seat, which is different than the picture for the seat covers. The problem with these seats is that they are 35" tall. My current seat measures approximately 32" tall. My seats are about 1" from the seat platform. TMI dimension chart suggests to add 2" for the mounting tracks. This will make the seats about 4" taller which will be very close to the ceiling.
Look here for seat dimensions: http://www.tmiproducts.com/products/pro-...-pair.html
