New rear suspension
#1
Ok, so the time has come order new leaf springs. Replaced all of my front suspension last year along with rear shocks. I used KYB Excel 2 I think on all four corners. Anyway my front coils are the 2" drop that I put in like ten years ago. Now that I am a grown up I hated how low the front was so I put in a 1" spacer on top of the coils and now it sits nice at 24 3/4" to the bottom of the wheel well. When I got the car 20 almost 20 years ago the previous owner had the back end lifted ridiculously high, so I bought the 2" drop shackles, I think, it was a long time ago. Either way I like the rear ride height and don't want to raise it too much if not at all, it sits at 26" to the bottom of the wheel well. I will probably stick to a near factory spring with original eye placement, just want to know if anyone has any suggestions on what to buy. My wheels are 15"x7" Magnum 500's with BFG Radial T/A's 235 60R15. This is the kit I was looking at. http://www.mustangsplus.com/xcart/1965-7...rak-R.html

As always, thanks for everyone's input!

I would install new springs in the front in conjunction with the rear..You want a matched balanced setup..20 year old fronts more than likely have some sag to them..Not only that you want everything new at the same time..Here's my recommendation

You can also email Shaun..ask his recommendations..Tell him your a member here, he may do a discount for you. I had the grab a traks in the rear of the green car wasn't that impressed.

Thanks guys! after looking at these two companies, I think I may go with street or track, Eaton's are nice, but a little out of my price range. Much appreciation!

Can anyone who has replaced their leaf springs share any issues you had, or tips and tricks? I have never done it and although it looks fairly simple I am hesitant to start on it because of the great unknown!

Use a penetrating fluid like PB Blaster on every fastener, soak and reapply. Assuming you are using jack stands and front wheel chocks, support the car on the rear subframes forward of the axle making sure not to block access to the front spring eye bolt. Do one side at a time supporting the axle tube with a jack stand on the side you are working on. This way there is no need to remove the differential and open the brake lines. Use the floor jack as safety insurance at a location that makes sense and is not in the way. Use 6 point sockets if at all possible. If a nut won't come loose try tightening then loosening while applying penetrating fluid, take your time and try not to break fasteners. The front eye bolt can be very difficult to remove if it hasn't been loosened in 40+ years. The shackle bolts are small and will break easily. Completely re-assemble one side before you start on the other side. Re-check all fasteners, especially the U-bolts which should be tightened evenly. Make your safety the priority. Good luck, Chuck

I ordered my Eaton springs from NPD. The one inch drop ones. The hight seems ok but I will say that they come looking like s%#t. I had to strip them and repaint them. Let youknow in a year or so on ride quality.
