Neutral Safety and Backup light switch
#1
Hello again,

My 73 has an FMX transmission and the neutral safety switch works fine however the backup lights stay on regardless of what position the shifter is in. When I was under the car today I only saw one set of wiring going to the shifter area and a quick glance around didn't show anything connected to the FMX.

Are both functions controlled by the same switch near the shifter or did I miss something. My only previous experience was on my C4.

Thanks!

Scott

Yes, they are controlled by the shifter control switch box mounted on the automatic transmission. My guess is that someone took the two backup light lines and tied them together probably in the engine compartment. All four lines plug into a 4-prong square plug on the headlight harness.

Let me check your shorts!

C4 and C6 switches are on the trans
FMX is inside of the shifter housing

I have new switches if you need one
Might have some good used ones too.

The connector plug is close to the end of the LH shock tower brace

Don, my fmx has the safety neutral switch/reverse light switch on the tranny with the 4 wire weatherproof plug.

Jim, I think someone made that set up. Or is it an export deal?

I have had 40 or so FMX parts cars
Every 71-3 fmx car had the switch in the shifter.

Don, I wouldn't argue with you in a million years! hehe
Were there other year fmx boxes which did have my setup?

Jim,
All the ones I have seen are in the shifter for 69 - 73
Even the new repro switch is 69 - 73
Maybe it is a later trans ?
Also at one time the switches were hard to find and NOS Ford ones were close to 200.00, so maybe someone made a c4 or c6 switch fit.

Do you have 1 or 2 four pin square plugs going to the switch?
What is the info / p/n on your trans dip stick ?
