Need advice about my 65 choice of engine
#1
My dad bought the 65 convertible brand new. It had a 200 I6 with a 3speed trans. I've swapped it to a 351w then to a 5.0 EFI. I've also swapped to Granada spindles and a 9" 3.50 traclok rearend. Currently the engine & trans are out. The Trans is a Tremec 3350 5 speed with scatter shield. I want to put the trans in my M-code. Big Grin

So I've always thought I did the car a disservice by swapping to the v8. I can swap or sell the EFI & v8 stuff pretty easily and go back to the 6. A few companies are making lots of hop up parts for the 6 now and have gotten over 210 hp out of theses engines with the aluminum intake and 4 barrel carb. That's cool. If I go back with a 6 I'd keep the 5 lug stuff & 9" on the car.

So what would you do? I only put the v8 in it because I wanted more power. Now I can get that out of a beefed up 6 and if that's not enough I can grab a different set of mustang keys for some serious power. Big Grin

Need help please. Thanks.

Yeah, I do too Robert. I'm just wondering if it would be enough. I like the idea of it being a little hot rod then I open the hood and it's a lil 6 cylinder...that's cool. But now I've got so much effort into the v8 conversion that I wonder what am I doing even thinking about converting back. A 6 cyl with a 9" rear? Really? Lol
Btw, anyone got a 200 cid 6 sittinig in a corner somewhere?

Tough decision! My 73 has it's original 250 I-6 and I've been tempted many times over the years to go to a 302 or 351, but have resisted the temptation so far. The I-6's are becoming more of a rarity because of many folks upgrading them. All I can say is mine is very reliable and keeps on going! If I do ever switch it out I will certainly keep the original engine.

I do appreciate the idea of doing more with less but, I'd put the 5.0 back in the car. I'd sell the 351 and use the proceeds to warm up the 5.0 and or improve the car overall. Just an opinion. Chuck

While I have a really strong desire to put a 6 back in it. I have the 5.0 already and those Windsor family engines are very durable. The goal for the car is a weekend cruiser that will only be driven on the street.

The 351w stuff is all gone except for a Wieand Stealth Intake that I can sell. I have all the EFI stuff to install except the electronic fuel pump. Newly acquired upgrades I have to the EFI include a 96 Explorer Intake which is essentially the same as a 93 Cobra intake. I also snagged the GT-40 heads from the Explorer.

I think the easiest thing to do is reinstall the 5.0 with the GT-40 heads. If I go that route then the question remains to go EFI or not. I could give the Explorer Intake to my son for the 93 and run a carb on my 5.0. I'm leaning in this direction. I have full length headers from the 351w swap, but those may not fit correctly in the car on a 5.0.

I don't have an carb intake for the 5.0. I have a 4100 built by PonyCarbs. I also have various Holleys sitting around. What intake, carb, & headers should I consider? Eddlebrock Performer & the 4100 with some long tube headers?

I added a poll :d ...should have done that to begin with.
