My dragstrip adventures
#1
tach
The Car: 71 Grandé 3775 lbs (with driver)Engine:351 2V
Edelbrock Air gap manifold 750 Holley(VS)
Hookers
Lunati Cam 218/218 .523 lift
stock 2V heads with stainlees valves
Trans: FMX with TCI converter
Gears: 4.11 trac lok
M/T drag radials
Current best time 13.93 99.99Smile
Track: Autoclub speedway; AKA Fontana
Started racing again in 2008 after a very long haitus. Did not intend to go racing but........ Won street Ford class at Fun Ford 2008 out here both days. I run 4-6 races a year mostly in the Mustang Madness class for PSCA(Pacific Street Car Association). Mustang Madness is an open comp format with a pro tree for Mustangs Only(Ford power required). The are many fast race cars in the the class and some street cars like mine. I drive my car to and from the track, so I am at a little disadvantage on the Pro Trre. I have gone a few rounds and managed a runner up finish last year.
There are three more PSCA races this year and the NMRA is also coming for the first time which I will be attending(True Street anyone?).

Sounds and looks like a lot of fun! I'd try it but I'm afraid I might like it and keep doing it!

But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. James 3:17 (KJV)

You sound just like me! I have tried the pro tree a few times.I need to stick with it.When I do try to run it I always am next to a really fast car or very loud and it just throws my concentration off. I just need to keep trying. I can cut some killer lights on the full tree so I am sure I could get the pro down with practice and getting my staging down. Good job on your wins!

I started out with .800 lights (with .400 being perfect). I cut that down to the low 600 range by deep staging and then with some pratice and careful staging got to the 550 range. At the last race in May, I managed some 480's by upping the RPMs.We Qualify based on RT so that put me #10 of 24, my best ever! Went to the quarter finals in that race. The next race is July 1-3 hopefully I can improve my RT some more.

Of course the top cars are in the 4oo's!

My buddy told me to day they closed Fontana because of noise levels to high.So he's going to Barona this weekend after running Fontana for the past 2 years.Like NASCAR is quit lol.He said Autoclub needs to install a sound wall. Come on its FONTANA for crying out load.

That's not QUITE Right.Confused

The track is still OPEN and in operation. True some races where canceled, such as the remainig Summit and NHRA races. The PSCA and NMRA/NMCA will still run as well as street legal and junior dragsters. The PSCA and NMRA are requiring ALL cars to have mufflers for the remaining races. Right now we must be less than 85 dba at a point 750 ft north of the track. A sound monitoring device has been installed there. The majority of cars meet that requirement without mufflers but PSCA is being cautious.

There are lawyers and politicians invovled of course.Exclamation

The Califorinia Speedway web site has the info as well as Pacific1320 and PSCA websites.

i'm getting into dragging too with my mach 1 but my first trip out with her was nothing but a huge tire roastint fest. im fixing that right on up and fixing some issues. i got to the points to where the engine wanted to not rev anymore and spurder right around 5000rpms or so.

i see your in southern caifornia where i grew up, i'm in nothern california for military reasons. i don't believe they will ever take away the state capitols racetrack. Big Grin
