Musti and Lux and others

My daughter is signed up for a trip into Germany next year. It is a school trip we decided to give her as a graduation present (my parents gave me a quick boot to the azz and told me to get a job for graduation) not really I'd been working full time since I was 15.Undecided

Any way what are some cool places that most tourist miss using the pre-planned guided trips there?

The small towns along the Mosel river are really nice with several great castle close by. Search on Mosel, Bernkastel-Kues, Burg Eltz. This will give you an idea of what I'm talking about. A lot depends on what she is interested in seeing/doing. There are so many things to see and do. Chuck

I agree with the Mosel suggestion. I drove that route and continued to Luxemburg. I love castles and you get plenty in that route. I also recommend two towns north of Munich, Rotenburg and Wursburg. The former is a very well kept medieval town with the wall still completely surrounding the city. The latter has a beautiful palace whose name cant remember.

I must add that Aachen and Cologne on the West are amazing. Cant ge enough of both of those cathedrals.
The castles along the Alps are very pretty like the Neuschweinstein, but that one falls within a popular touristic place.

In large cities like Munich the Hop on Hop Off tour buses give a good overview of city highlights and allows you to decide which sites you want to visit. Do it early on so you can spend the remaining time seeing what you really want to see. Some of the nicest places require a car or serious planning to use the public busses. Chuck

Not an expert as I have only been twice, but we had a good time both times.

First time's theme was old stuff and WW2

Last time was beer and museums

Until she is older the how old stuff is might be lost on her. What we think of as old in the states really is quite young.

Nuremberg and Dresden were the most memorable first time.

Last time was going to

The oldest continuously run brewery.

No matter what, I am sure she will have fun.
