Mercury alladins cave or goose chase
#1
Howdy I have been told of a bloke that's got a 67 gt 390 cougar and a 68 428 cougar thats not an eliminator?? and a Buick GS 350. What would be the value of these cars in the states assuming they are in good order? Appreciate some guidance as I know nothing about Mercury's other than cougars and cyclones look awesome. What do I need to look at on these cars to separate a good one from a nightmare. Where are problem rust areas etc

Going to follow it up even though it sounds like a tall tale because this is exactly how I found my Mach 1. I have also found a 95 softail custom with 644km on the clock bought on the spot for way too little cash. I have also found an a9x in burnie tasmania and a 73 super duty pontiac trans am this way unfortunately they where not for sale but i got his HG GTS 350.Attached a pic of a a9x for non Aussies this car is arguably Australia's most successful production race car

Hey Luke,

Saw your post about some interesting Cougars and couldn't help but post a reply.

'67 was the first year for the cougar, and the GT 390 was the top engine for the car that year.

'68 saw the introduction of the 428CJ in April. This would almost certainly be a GT-E, and may or may not also be an XR-7. VERY rare car, very few produced. Almost all of them were automatics (something like 3 built with 4spd). There is a registry for these cars, here; http://gte.mercurycougarregistry.com/
And a forum page for the registry, here; http://www.classiccougarcommunity.com/fo...m.php?f=37

I admit, those two years are not my specialty, but if you read through the Registry page it will give you some things to look for.

If you do get a chance to check out these cars, be sure to record the Door data plate info and VIN, and maybe snap a pic or two, and post up on the Cougar forum. We'd all love to hear about these cars!

Feel free to shoot me a PM or email if there might be anything else I can help you with!

Mike Thanks for the links. Hearing that they are rare cars makes me a bit anxious as always, could be a big find or huge disappointment. I will now take myself to school on Mercury's. Pics for sure if it doesn't turn out to be a shed full of Honda civics Wink

So I grabbed old Beno and we drove 2.5 hours to check out these cougars. On the way Ben was telling me about his fairlane and meeting this bloke turns out Beno got some thunderjet heads of this dude awhile back. We get there meet, greet, coffee, talk shit. Down to business where are these cougars old man as we wander over to the shed. Gone the 67 was a 390gte in gold and the 428 was a xr7 in dark green. The 428 was bought by some young blokes to go racing in the gold car is with a collector. Hope these cars have survived wouldn't be many in Aus. I did learn that I now love love love 69 mercury marquis. Not a bad day just another tale of the never was. Still you only need to get lucky once Wink
