Longer leaf spring shackles?
#1
I just purchased a new set of leaf springs that lower the rear end about an 1-1 1/2". If I were to put these on my '73 and longer spring shackles (to make up the difference), would this be ok "handling" wise?

longer shackles actually raise the rear. i know because i had long shackles on mine and i replaced them with OEM ones and it dropped like 4 inches almost

I know. If I lower the car in the rear, it will change the stance. Due to the long tube headers, I can't lower the front any more. By replacing the leaf springs, I will lower the car. I want to use shackles that raise the car to bring it back up. I have been told that raising a car in the rear will make it handle badly at freeway speeds. I just want to keep the same overall height with the spring/shackle combo.

OH i see what you mean. I dont think it makes a difference. Youll just have a stiffer spring which helps you.

cazsper,

I would definitely chuck the longer shackles for either OEM or performance type shackles. I would then research the leaf springs from Eaton Detroit Springs. There, you can look the different spring eyes that include Standard eyes, Berlin eyes, or reverse eyes that will lower a vehicle.

Even if you do not buy from them, at least look into their information.

Here is there spring tech 101-
