My Mustangs:

72 Q-code Mach 1, Pewter/Black Sport, 4-spd, 3L25.
65 Convertible, Britney Blue/White/White, more modified than original.
05 Convertible, Legend Lime/Tan/Tan, future classic??
I dunno.
Let´s for a moment forget that there are such sharp angles. I don´t think it looks right because it doesn´t follow any natural lines. It even interferes with the creases in the hood.
Sorry, it´s not for me. Sad

"If I were you...... I´d rather be me."  Tongue

Check out my video:

Straight lines would look better to me
I like how the black makes the three hood creases pop.

Not. Digging it myself. Argent would be better than glossy black. Shape is just not right for the flat hood.

Not liking it.

It takes away from the actual ram-air equipped cars, robs a little of thier exclusivity.

Originally, only the BOSS 351 was available with the side stripes (as standard equipment). Makes sense as only a real "race car" would need the functionality of stripes. (Forgetting that the BOSS 351 was never a "real race' car though...). It had the full matte-black or argent hood paint treatment, another nod to the non-glare functionality of a real race car.
The BOSS 351 had several unique features to help differentiate it from other models, most notably the Mach 1.

The Mach 1 was never an homage to a "race" car, but more of a GT (Grand Touring) street car. Hence, the side stripes and full matte-hood paint were not included. A couple of bits of extra trim for appearances sake were added.

Then...as was the usual practice at the time...Ford near-instantly made the BOSS 351's side stripes optional on the Mach 1, blurring the lines visually between the two models quite a bit. This must have put a few penniies in the coffers at Ford, so...

Next thing they did was to whore out the entire Mach 1 front end and BOSS side-stripe treatment to a lowly "Spring Special" coupe, just for the sake of pedaling a few more low-end coupes.

This further diluted the uniqueness of the BOSS and Mach vehicles, and removed some exclusivity from thier owners.

Nothing but a cheap-ass big-corporation money grab.

The flat hoods should never have had any tutone paint from the factory, and I'm glad they did not.

In fact, I have always thought it would have been great if the ram-air equipped cars all had thier own hood paint scheme depending on what engine they had:

1) Full black-out for BOSS 351s
2) 351 ram air: Something unique
3) 429 ram-air: Something else unique.

This way, not only could a BOSS be spotted easily from a distance, so could a 351 vs a 429. Every engine combo would have its own look.
