June 2011 COTM! One of one 72 SPORTSROOF
#1
Hello everybody!

Well... some of you already know me and my car... some other don´t so... as i was reading a thread to "car or story of the month" i decided to post mine again.. perhaps more elaborated than before...

As i´m a spanish language person.. my english is not "show quality" Tongue so be patient! je!

Well... My name is Damián and i´m from Uruguay, in South America.. I'm 31 years old and i´m a mustang fan and a small budget (jejje) collector since 10 years or so...

First of all i want you to understang what a mustang is for any uruguayan guy.... A mustang is the car you see in some movies... a SUPER MUSCLE CAR that should go 300 miles per hour easily Tongue A car you jusn DONT see in person never ever... That is because mustangs were never sold in my country.. No dealer imported them back then so... There shouldn´t be any mustang here at all...

In the classic mustang years, some militars, some politics imported car privately and thats how if you look good... you can see one once a year perhaps... I´ve been told theres as much as 50 mustangs in my country... 50!!! you probably have 50 mustangs in your neighbourhood!! i envy you!!!

Well.. i made it clear that mustangs are rare... je!... However i've owned some over the years...

My dream was to get a fastback someday... but... fastback simply dont exist here... as convertibles... you just cant find them... no money can buy what doesnt exist... but.....

BUT... a friend of my mother contacted me to see if i was interested in his car... He has this 72 fastback since forever...
I went to see the car... the car was dissambled... everything was in the guys backyard... awfull...
But.. as it was a fastback, i bought it, hoping the car wasnt bad, all together...

Well... Happy with my fastback, i started to clean part by part and put it in the car and part by part the car was looking better and better... (mustangs here are always very bad worked.. repairs over the years were done with other car parts and so)...
My fastback didnt show accidents at all.. and for my surprise... there was straight as an arrow and almoust complete... Every part was old but every important part was factory original so... happier i was...

I decided to just repaint it and make it work because i had no money (still haven´t Tongue) and i wanted to use it so, as i am a do it myself person, i did some metal work, then painted the car, put the pices together and i was happy with my fastback, even if it is a I6 mustang, bla bla...

The interesting story begins here... Like a month ago i become member here, wondering why my vin number was "wrong" and i couldnt decode it anywhere... I post a thread with my vin to get help from you guys and Don (OMS), several days later tells me my car was actually a 1 of 1 mustang with a low compression I6 etc...

Being a 1 of 1 for being the slowest mustang ever built is not that amazing... jeje but for me and for where i´m from, have a special something is a great deal... I contacted Marti who confirmed what Don´s been saying and happier than ever i started to think what to do...

I decided to, piece by piece, make my car factory original, totally stock again... with no hurry at all in order to ENJOY THE PROCESS...

And here i am... i´m not only the owner of the only 71-72 fastback in my country but my little car is a 1 of 1 mustang who deserves to be treated like a "piece of history"... not just a beautiful car...

Thank you guy for reading my bad english but nice story and hope you enjoy my car as much as i do...

WOW Damian! What a story and I read it as if Ricky Ricardo was reading it to me. Anyhow, I've never ever seen an I6 in a 71-73 body style so you're truely the one and only. That is insanly special in my book. With the ever rising gas prices, you're very lucky to have an I6. I hardly ever drive mine cause it's a gas sucking pig and I can't afford spending $40 a day on gas alone. That's a nice color green. Congrats bro!

Thanks FasTnNefariouS! And yes!! I6 is so pour - rare that i couldn´t find almost any info!.. Since the plans now are to eventually get the car factory original, this kind of miss information plays against me... rocketfoot has.. or had an I6 in a Grandé so i studied all his pictures Wink whenever the engine bay restoration comes, that´s almoust all the info i had... The orange trim didn´t work.. i know Sad Have to change it.. it burns the eyes Tongue

Another thing about I6 sportsroof... i red somewhere that there were something about 270 made in 72, under the "L" engine code... I´m sure the guys here have the correct information about it... Mine is 1 of 2 with the "3" engine code, meaning a low compression 250 for export... My car is manual and the other one should be automatic... there is my 1 of 1 Tongue

Ok FasTnNefariouS... VOTE!!! jeje This thread is for voting too and i have been seing noone is voting anymore!! neither in my thread nor in the other 2 members!!... It´s a fun contest!!
I voted for my two rivals!! jejee
