How much $ for wheels?
I've come to the conclusion that I am going to go with 17x8 (4.5" BS) wheels on the front and 17x9.5 (5.5" BS) in the rear of my '73 Mach-1. I was looking at the American Racing wheels: Torque Thrust-2's and their VN 500 "Custom 500's". I was quoted a little over $500 for the rears and about $490 for the fronts. $2000 seems like a lot of money for wheels. Am I crazy or is that just what they cost?

I would have to guess that if the backspacing is custom then yeah, it's reasonable. However, if they are off the rack, then you are getting gouged. Go to American Muscle...~$150 per rim, maybe a little more.

I didn't spend $2k on my steering wheel. I don't intend on spending $2k on a set of wheels.

I have been through the $2k wheel thing....put it off, put it off...put it off. Now I am saying WHAT WAS I THINKING!!!! $2K???

Next time, get 100 $20 bills, tape them to the wall. And then decide whether which looks better...those wheels on your car or those Jackson's on the wall.

Of course I appreciate everyone's input. I know everyone here could be on another forum fighting the 2v vs 4v head debate. Just trying to figure some things out and I don't know where to start. I need to get my wheels before I can finish the rear suspension because the new springs lower the car 1 1/2", but due to the wrong backspace now, I don't have 1 1/2" to go. I know I have to get my wheels/tires before I can get my brakes. But I just want to buy wheels just once. But of course I appreciate everyone's help.
I went with American Racing Torque Thrust II rims 16 x 7 front and rear with Goodyear Eagle GT tires (225/55R16) and paid $1288.69 for the whole package from TireRack.com, mounted balanced and shipped to my door.

Give them a call they were great. They beat the snot out of all local suppliers.

I went with 15" Magnum 500's 7 inch in front with 225 60's and 8 inch 245 60's in back. The tires are BFG T/A's. They came mounted, balanced and delivered to the door from CJ's for $1,098. I have the original stock suspension and the 245's barely fit.

It is inexcusable for scientists to torture animals; let them make their experiments on journalists and politicians.
