Head threaded hole?
#1
Well, for starts I picked up a 1973 Mustang Grandé from the original owners son. The best part he still have the original title, I plan on making a copy of it or try and get another one and just keep the original one. Here is some of the basic information on the mustang: They took out the old 302 and installed a 5.0 w/ a lot of upgrades, t-5 tranny but nothing was hooked up. I got the engine started but there were two holes on the heads (one on each) on the front of them. It looks like it should be a threaded bolt to shut it but....no idea, I know a 1/2' bolt won't plug it also a 3/8 pipe fitting won't work also...any ideas what the hols is for? When I started the engine, you could hear/see exhaust coming out the holes, the larger hole is the one in question(top left). The heads I was told were aftermarket so no idea who made them or if they are just from ford.

Thery're for the air injectors on the smog heads. The 5.0's have the crossover on the back, at the firewall. Looks like they switched head sides on installation. Ooops.

Here's what the crossover looks like. I do not know what fastener is used to hold them to the head/plug the holes unfortunately.

I felt around w/ my hands and there seems to be some also on the back side. Where they ever pluged?
Motoarts, thanks for the tip, that got me into the right direction now...I emailed a company that sells heads to see if they can send me 4 plugs...will advise when I get an answer from them. Thanks again!!

IIRC, those ports are 5/8", not sure if they are -11 or -16 thread.

The rears normally would have a direct opening to the exhaust port, the fronts would have a bushing installed to receive the bolts for the alternator and power steering pump. You'll need to get those bushings for your accessories, try your local Ford dealer.

+1 There are factory threaded bushings that go in these.
