H pipe or X pipe
#1
Here are my engine specs: (short descprition..won't go into all the engine specs)
302
Thumper Cam
Hedman Elite ceramic coated headers
petronix ignition

So, I was wondering which one do I go with....H pipe or X pipe.

I'm leaning towards the X pipe in 2.5inch diameter.

Your thoughts, answers, suggestions...greatly appreciated.

I just ordered the 2,5" X-Pipe kit from PYPES, with Street Pros AND Violator mufflers, so I can choose which goes the best for me Smile All the samples sounded good on youtube, I will post a video when the kit is installed Smile
(i have Hooker Comp Headers and 351C-2V with Holley 4 barrel carb)

There is a distinc tone difference between the two to be sure. Many choose the "H" pipe for the vintage muscle car sound while the "X" pipe knocks out what I would call the tinie sound. Check our a few examples on you tube or wait for Sly_drums to get his installed and post his new sound!

X pipe has a bit more of that "NASCAR" tone to it...I say go x over h, better flow too.

Since I had to cut the H pipe to work on the trans swap I'm converting to an "X".

My 69 vert has a 302 with the X-pipe setup using 2.5" Magna Flow. Has a nice idle and (to me) just the right amount of tone to it while crusing. If you go WOT, it screams.

My 73 vert has 351 with H-Pipe and custom 2 1/4" dual setup with Borla mufflers. Excellent low bass type tone at idle and cruise. Classic lower "muscle car" tone at WOT.

Just my 2 cents

Just installed the Pypes kit, but with Violator mufflers. I love the sound so far, not as rumbly as my former H-Pipe, very smooth tone at idle, and screaming when you push !
And those Violator sound far better than the previous Fowtech Raptor mufflers. Beautiful sound and not as loud. Go for it Smile I also have the Street Pro mufflers but didn't test them yet.
Anyway I have to say the Pypes kit needed major tweaking to fit !! I'm happy it's done now, because it's been some pain Sad

I will of course, post a review with pictures and videos very soon !!
