fun thing to note.

Eleanor is actually not a 73 :-)

during filming Halicki had a mix of cars to use some 71,72s

he dressed them all the same so he could be consistent as cars would be wrecked.

so while on the chalkboard in the film the order is for a 73 mach 1 a mix of 71 and 72 cars were used and dressed with a 73 grill since at the time the 73 car was harder to find.

from the start of the chase at the end of the film to the final jump was actually a modified 1971 fastback. the dead give away is the turn signal lights mounted under the front bumper.

due to the bumper design changes in 1973 the turn signals were moved to the grill and the rallye lights served as a dual function, since the structure below the bumper had to also be changed there was no room for the lights down there.

so the original Eleanor is in fact a 1971 fastback mach 1 dressed to look kinda like a 1973 car for the film.
