Fuel filler to floor boot
#1
Hello,
I'm at the beginning stages of a proper restoration of my 71 coupe. I'm beginning with a new trunk floor and ran into a silly issue. For the life of me I can't remember if the trunk floor to filler boot (the large oval one) goes on the inside or tank side of the trunk floor. I cut the old floor out 2 1/2 years ago and got a little side tracked.Blush Also does the hardware thread into the trunk floor or does the floor boot have a metal plate that is threaded. Sorry if my questions seem disjointed.

Thanks in advance.

The oval rubber and metal seal goes on inside the trunk, there are four screws that hold it to the floor. The screws go on inside the trunk as well. If you need pic's I can take some, that part of my car is disassembled right now so it would be easy to see. Mark

WOW that was fast! Thank you both for responding so quick. Mark a pic of the opening in the trunk floor would be awesome. The repro I am using is stamped at the opening creating a 1/2 " deep beveled flange that seems to cause a little clearance issue with the top of the tank. Does that make sense? I assume that I can knock it down with a grinder as the boot goes on top anyway.

Thanks!

Here are a couple of pics with the tank out I took about five years ago. I have since had the tail light panel replaced and the pin holes fixed that were under the rubber gasket. I thought I had some pics from underneath with the tank out. I'll keep digging for them.

Perfect! So its just a 1/4" rolled lip. I was hoping I could trim the lip down and didn't want to take off anything that was needed.
Thanks to all of you for the quick replies!

Looks like 1/4 inch, but I never measured! Glad the pics helped out!
