While I cannot say whether it is a "good" price or not, I know I would not get rid of my 428CJ motor for less than thatSmile.

It comes down to the rarity, in estimation which does not make it "right" by any means.

There are a lot of interesting cars/parts that come from Hemming's Daily.
I was comparing the price of that engine to what I paid Don of OMS for a
rebuilt stock 351C 4V long block never fired with a cam. I had all the parts,
just a cracked block.

IMHO, I would not pay that price for a .040 block. That means it has been gone through twice.

Also, I would not care that it is numbers matching. I would care that it was the original owner, that all the parts were original(not just number matching), the distributor had it's original tag, the carb (I do not see a carb), had it's original tag, every single bolt/screw was original, and that the owner had the original cam and original damper(the damper on the motor appearst to be painted blue...what were they thinking).

But then again, I am not in need of such a motor. In 1970 I was 12, and would have given a substantial portion of my anatomy for a BLACK 1970 Mach I, 428CJ with the shaker hood and 4 speed....settled on $200 for a 1970 XR7 351C 4V 4 Speed Convertible Rust Bucket...I am sure I had more fun in the rust bucket.

0.040 over is not bad for a 428. Would not do that to a Cleveland.
Besides, that is a lot of money for a stock rebuilt 428.

Well Roy, I am still "looking at" putting it and the cast iron tailshaft C6 in a 1969 Mach 1. That would include the 457:1 Nodular traction lok rearendSmile.

But if I change my mind, I will keep you in mind.
