Its amazing how many frauds beeing pulled off in the classic car hobby.
As for me here in Norway, could never buyed a car without having it inspected. I know a couple of guys buying theire dream car unseen, and when the container opens and they see the car its just a big dissapointment.
-VIN swaps
-Rust
-Bad body work
+++

As im in the market my self i see many strange thingswhistling
Have patience and take your time, if the seller is serious he know thats the correct way to do it.
Here in Norway its impossible to register a imported car if the VIN and original clear title doesnt match, and if its a 1971 or newer, even its original paint-color,wheels,engine,transmission and interior must match if you want to have it registrated without rebuilding lights,seatbelt etc etc.

With VINs so easily swapped that story inspires me to want to order an extra buck tag from Marti and attach it in a secret place on the car where I could tell police to look. The chances of it being stolen and recovered in a similar manner are a million to one though. That is a very luck guy for his story to turn out this way.

T-K, If you're still thinking of buying that Boss. Insist they pull the fenders and verify the alternate VIN. Years ago I used to pull the harmonic balancer and check the year until I found out where the VIN #'s were located.

Sure makes you think twice about doing front clip swaps. I mean, what part of the car justifies it was stolen? Engine block, front clip, rear cab, buck tags, etc??? So many of our cars have parts from doner cars right? If they justified it was his based on a vin tag on a door, then I don't think that's right at all. I see too many problems with this case and the ebay seller will get the car back. [/u]

I don't think we are getting the FULL story & all the details. I would hope if the cops were involved or a dmv inspector that they went off more than just a door tag. This is why it's so important to document with pictures..video..receipts EVERYTHING you do when your restoring replacing parts. You should see the file I have on my stang ! At the bare minimum IF the seller had pictures & documentation of the car when he bought & then receipts & pictures after the work & parts he bought...I would bring a lawsuit for the 10,000.00 back since even though the car was stolen (the seller didn't know) The real owner shouldn't be entitled to the upgrades/ money the seller spent..He's entitled to the car back in THE CONDITION IT WAS when it was stolen. The other thing too, is if his insurance co paid him off on the car then he was "made whole" & those moneys should be returned to the insurance co..There's lot's of things you could bring up in a lawsuit !
