Early Mustang Comparison
Author Message
#1
Our Mustangs are often compared to the earlier Mustangs. Here are the base specifications for 1964-1/2 to 1978 Mustangs. Some differences, yes, but not as much as you might expect. I included some little known engines, such as the Paxton supercharged 289s and the 427s. The supercharged 289s were apparently installed on some GT-350s. The 427s were installed as special order or dealer options as near race ready. Only a few of these exotics were ever installed, would be interesting to know how many survived. If anyone finds any errors, please let me know, so I can correct them.

I need to go to the source. There are at least two 427 mustangs that are factory stock here. The Vin# are correct. I need to do that soon.

The existence of 427 Mustangs has been rumored for decades, yet no evidence has surfaced of a factory Mustang with a 427.  According to Kevin Marti, there were no 427 Mustangs, ever.  Some early 1967 or 68 sales brochures mentioned them as an option, but none were ever produced, which is probably how the rumor got started.  I believe there were a few 427 Cougars, though.
