Door stuck shut
#1
Alright now sure this is the correct place to post this but I figured I would ask for a little help. I looked at a similar thread on here but it didn't seem to have much in it.

So the door will not open on the drivers side. I tired inside and out still no go. I did recently replace the door handle with a shiny new one because I just got the car painted.
I pulled the door panel ( pulling out a few clips sadly... Hopefully they can be fixed) and pulled the rod off the lock, pulled on all of the rods but still no go. I hosed it down with some wd-40 hoping it would help still nothing. I looked in one of the repair manuals I have, It mentioned something about taking an 1/8" welding rod bending it and slipping it between the lock but there is no space for that, the latch seems to be boxed in on most sides plus the spring on the bottom feels different. I have tried to push and pull on just about everything I could touch but still no go. Any tips? maybe I am missing something? I was thinking tomorrow when I have a little more sunlight I will pull off all of the rods and pull on just the inside door handle part.... should have probably tried that but didnt think of it until just now.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I made sure mine was unlocked, held the outside handle up and had my son kick the door from the inside..near the edge. it popped open. my stryker was not adjusted properly.

Thanks I will give that a shot. It feels like it might be stuck between locked and unlocked. I am not really sure. The latch itself hasn't been touched since the car was built just the handle. I read something about the latch getting stuck in the middle position and pulling on the lock rod or whatever its called, repeatedly will sometimes do the trick. I will post an update if I get anything to work.

When I had my handles out I had to pull really hard on the engagement rod to open the door. I'm not sure how hard you pulled, but you could give it a shot. Don't be shy with it!

Vise grips are O.K. to be involved in the rod grip.

had a similar problem a couple of years ago. I had my windows down at the time. I had no choice but to take the door trim off, and use a 4 inch grinder on the lock mechanism. Being the drivers side door, the lock was just worn out.

You are a really lucky guy! All you have to do is convince your MIL to get in the car, close the door and then walk away. All problems solved!

Let me check your shorts!

Well I finally did a horrible horrible thing and took a dremal to things. Thanks jimniki for the idea. I tired with a drill but I could only get one of the rivets out of it. I think there is a place that could be drilled into the new lock (once I get it) that will allow me to open it easily should this happen again. Anyone recommend a place to pick up new locks? I have a buddy that has a convertible he said I could steal parts from because hes not going to fix it anymore. I am just not sure that he will be able to get them to me before I my itching to drive my baby gets to bad.

Ill post up a few pix soon. Hopefully someone will find them useful.

Congrats on getting the door open. I have the exact same problem right now. I locked the door then heard a pop and cant get it to open. This happened at the end of last summer, but I was to disgusted to touch it. Need to get on it soon!! The new motor will be done and weather will be turning nice. Cant wait to see the pics. hope I can see something that will help. How hard was the door panel to get off with the door closed??
