Door mirror glass is loose
#1
So on both of the door mirrors on my '73 Mach 1, the mirror glass is loose in its frame.  it won't stay in position. basically it seems like whatever friction fittings used to exist inside the mirror housing is completely gone.  Is there a way to get inside the mirror housings to replace the fittings?  or does the entire mirror housing need to be replaced.  because I have what CJPonyParts calls the "racer" style mirrors, all of the fittings are shrouded behind the housing behind the glass.  I don't really want to buy new housing because then I have to paint them. has anyone else dealt wit this issue? thanks

This has been discussed several times on this forum. It's a common problem. Search the forum for mirrors, you will find several solutions, including a remote electrical mirror retrofit.

so there is no adjustment screw on these mirrors that I can see. it looks like just a dinky spring holding the mirror on. almost seems like there should be more parts in the housing that are now missing. there is nothing to create friction to hold the mirrors in place

your killing my brain cells now... but i recall if u tilt the mirror down and look into the top there is a screw that holds it on. u can remove it to see what u need to do... or tighten the screw.. i really don't recall but my pass mirror had the same problem and i fixed it... where did i put that brain cell...
mine are the sport mirrors.

The mirror glass assembly is removable by tilting the mirror and removing one phillips head screw. Simple. There is a tutorial on wccc forum which shows how to tighten the passenger side very well. I have done it several times. Not a big deal. Ed Raver
